I fancy it could go either way. The culture diference would be interesting. If Leonard found Duran rough around the edges he would find Zivic interesting to say the least.
Way to go Janitor. You hit the nail right on the Head. What a contrast in Personas.Quick, smooth, sweet, well spoken Sugar Ray vs. Fritzie Zivic. And you were right on with your comparison with Duran. If Duran took Leonard to School it was Kindergarten compared to were Fritzie would take him.I would imagine Leonard taking a 15Rd.decision but not before he absorbed an ample amont of Elbows,Headbutts.Thumbs, and low blows.Frizie was a real character, but a Helluva fighter too. Thanks
Zivic was a tough dude, Leonard had the all around talent but Fritzie would show him some gutter in the trenches
I see Leonard getting a close decision but taking a beating in the process with Zivic throwing everything at him.
Lpenard wins this imo , just great at the weight h2h, Zivic would do well and could hurt Leonard with his antics, but he just wouldnt do welll enough imo.
Fritzie takes it with his pure boxing ability! Seriously Leonard wins a dec ,but he might come out with a detached retina a lot sooner than he did,Fritzie was rough in there thumbs ,laces ,the heel ,and choke holds ,not to mention he was a class A butter.
Duran was a master defensive fighter and master counter puncher with an excellent jab and speed. This is what won him the fight, Zivic did not have near these abilities
Zivic might have won if he was tuned to concert pitch and had a tolerant referee, but more than likely the flashier, more talented Leonard would have won the battle but lost the war. Zivic's abuse of Leonard's eye's with his down in the gutter, dirty tactics would have probably completely ruined Ray's career, and taxed him physically beyond repair.
I've never seen film on Zivic. From what I've read he was a competent boxer. Scientific. Scientifically dirty as well. Not to say he beats Leonard. Leonard was an all time great at Welter. But Ray wouldn't walk away un scathed either.
