Here’s a hypothetical scenario......Froch goes on to beat Abraham, Kessler, Ward and Green in his remaining scheduled Super Six bouts. He then defeats the finalist in the concluding fight, and is crowned the Super Middleweight King of the world.

Would this alone be enough to surpass Calzaghe in terms of legacy, resume, and Britain’s list of ATG? I personally think it is more than enough. What do you chaps think? Opinions from our American counterparts would be most welcome, as you will likely be more impartial than the Joe and Carl fans us Brits have.

(Please note, this thread is in no way entertaining the thought of Calzaghe’s return. The ***** is retired, and better off staying there)

I'm not a fan of Froch or Cal, but if Froch were to do what you described, he would be above Cal in resume' and the only thing Cal would have over him is length of reign at 168.

I said to a friend before the Super Six that whoever wins that tournament is going to have a better resume than Joe.

Not if he does this but then is beat for all the marbles by Bute who is patiently waiting for a winner to emerge. Too bad he is excluded but Green is in. Tournament kinda ruins the rest of the division and kills Bute's momentum to build a legacy as he is left with unworthy opponents and another beltolder who refuses to fight him in Stielitz.

If Froch beats Kessler and Abraham his top 5 wins would be way better than Calzaghe's top 5 wins.

Just by reaching the final, IMO, his resume surpasses Calzaghe.

froch is not going to beat Abraham, Kessler and Ward though? So who cares?

Yeah he'd pass him but the chance of a bum like Froch beating those 3 fighters back to back to back aint gonna happen.

I don't think it will happen, but I agree with you...it's more than enough. In fact, if he just beats Kessler, Ward and maybe one or two good names, it might be enough.

His legacy would be better, but I would still pick Calzaghe to beat him head to head.

Of course, that's not true. I'm no mathlete...but I'm guess that you might be able to get to the finals with a knockout, a razor thin win and a lose. Which is what I think Froch is in for.

Maybe you should look up what "hypothetical" means?

Hypothetically Neptune could crash into Earth tomorrow, the chances are so slim that there is no point in hypothesizing this however.

In answer to the opening post then Yes Froch's resume would easily surpass Calzaghe's.

But it would also depend what Froch did afterwards. If he retired he would be seen as possibly the best SMW of all time. If he then lost his next 5 fights then some would still not accept his resume was better than Calzaghe's.

Its easy to dismiss Froch because of his style, I have done so myself in the past, but the lad keeps on winning. I'm now very much a fan and enjoy his fights.
