Eh, carrying someone to "fix" an over/under or a specific round prop isn't that egregious a crime to me. Of course I may feel differently if I was someone who bet large amounts of money on those things. It just isn't up there with the likes of throwing a fight, or padding your gloves or anything like that. It's a very mild and forgivable strain of "cheating". In fact, within the context of boxing it isn't even cheating at all. A guy can carry an opponent any time he wants for whatever reason he wants, there's nothing inherently wrong with it. It's only cheating in the gambling context, which is an entirely separate consideration.
Makes me wonder why Cloud didn't throw a punch at the timid and HURT Campillo in the 2nd round.:think
I concur. Your points make sense, my comments point to the latter. Hell I hope boxing isn't dragged across the coals again. Good post.:good edit - Welcome!!
He's lucky the BBBoC have more pressing issues to worry about, but under normal circumstances, I would expect at least a nominal fine. As things stand, he might just have to backtrack for the record to keep the media happy and to promise not to be so... honest in future. Hope this doesn't scupper the Bute fight!!
Why? It isn't a big deal, at all. If anything it makes him look like a ****ing boss, that he can literally end a fight at any precise time that he wants to. Taking a dive is sinful because it makes the whole competitive premise of the sport a sham. Carrying someone an extra round doesn't do that. It's the same outcome in the end. It's just one guy choosing to not pull the trigger until he's good and ready (and if there's financial gain as a motivation for that, well - whatever. That doesn't matter. The spirit of competition has still not been violated.)
If someone wants to prolong a fight to hurt someone more, a la wladimir/vitali with haye, is that also fixing? I know where everyone is coming from but there has to be a line and at the moment it's not clear.
This could turn out tragic if the rules are respected to the extreme. I know another example from another sport, Andreea Răducan lost her's gold medal for taking a Aspirin pill that contained something that was on the list for illegal substances, even tho it did nothing to help her performances.
