Well its not REALLY fixing is it? In its true sense. I mean, its not like the other guy was in on it. It was just a case of Froch being better than him and being able to do it. I dont see the big deal really. Nothing untoward really happened. Nothing was "FIXED", the other guy could have easily landed a big punch or fought very defensively that round and Froch mighnt have got to him.
Round fixing is A-ok. As Froch himself said, if he's good enough to do it then fair enough. The spirit of competition is unbroken. Is it sneaky and unfair to people who bet on a fourth round KO? Well...yes. :yep A bit. The spirit of competition on the gambling side is therefore compromised. But...**** them. That has naught to do with the boxing side of it. Besides, gambling is GAMBLING. Outcomes are by nature dependent on a shitload of factors beyond your control, and the winner choosing to delay his victory a round is one of those unforeseeable uncontrollable factors. In terms of the actual boxing match, leaving betting out of it - the integrity of competition is intact. :deal
When I saw the thread title I was dissapointed (Froch is one of my fav fighters) and I thought he was somehow involved in fights with dives and whatnot. Not finishing your opponent until a round of your choosing, aint ****. If a fighter has the ability to do so, thats on them. Nothing corrupt there, imo.
I like Froch as a fighter, but considering that he hasn't stopped anyone outside 12 rounds since 2008 his friends and family must be well out of pocket.
I dont remember Ali implying that he would carry anybody. He made predictions but if you were ready to before the round then he would take you out and make a rhyme to justify it.Same thing if he took you out later. The only fighter I remember him saying he would punish was Ernie Terrell cause he wouldnt call him call him Ali. Now the difference is that everybody knew what Ali was doing but only Froch and his family knew what was on his mind.
