Froch and Groves. Things you note and have seen, and things from the first fight to note, or anything that makes you think who the winner will be. 1. There was a preview of Froch and Groves at the table talking on Ringside and someone who knows little of boxing, Froch or Groves saw what I was watching when Groves mentioned about Froch seeing a sports psychologist. Froch was replying and they asked me if he was OK. When I asked why, they said he seems nervous and rattled. Could it be that because Froch has not got as angry visably with Groves this time around that people are missing that he may still feel angry with Groves? We saw him push Groves before. Will this have an affect? 2. In the first fight, Groves and his trainer split up, which I guess would have been disruptive and I think Groves was even dealing with legal disputes right up close to fight time which must have taken time away and been a distraction. Will Groves be better with a stronger training camp? 3. Froch is taking this fight very seriously and knows the power Groves has. What do you think he will try and do differently? What have you seen and who do you think will win?
First time I placed 2 bets on Groves. One for him to win by KO and another for him just to win. I am picking Groves to win again.
1) even though Froch is seeing a sports psychologist, it does seem to be doing him some good. he's handling being in the presence of Groves a lot better than the first time they fought. he's calmer. there have been a few times that Froch has stuttered when being interviewed on this fight, but that's been when he's on his own. when he's been with Groves in person though, there isn't any sign of nerves from him. Groves is trying to push his buttons, but they're not having the same affect as before. 2) Groves will be in a much better place compered to the first time due to him having his camp settled. but, how much a Trainer so inexperienced as Fitzpatrick is, can do for him, remains to be seen. me personally, i think Groves uses what he's already learnt and goes from there because he isn't going to learn much from his current Trainer. but we'll see. Groves can either do what he did last time and be Gung Ho, or he can learn from the experience and be a lot more patient with his attacks. he needs to keep a cool head and use his speed and jab. let everything come off of that. George has done that in the past, but not at this level. can he really do what is needed? i'm not sure to be honest because he does like to mix it up a bit too much and let his urges for a fight get in the way. he failed some what with that frame of mind last time so he needs to use his advantages that he has otherwise he could come unstuck. so it's all down to the mind set that George has. he's been told enough times what he needs to do out there to get the win against someone as tough as Carl but will he listen? that's a problem that only he can decide on. 3) i don't think Carl can really do anything different this time. i don't buy him not being on the ball for the first time. he knew that Groves was a dangerous fighter. just look at Carl's face when they're in the ring during the announcements, he's looking pretty nervous and aware of what's ahead. George is the one who looks cool and ready for war. Froch has always been slow of hand and foot, but he's overcome this with toughness, surprising boxing ability, mental strength, timing, and a strong will to just get stuck in there. but he'll always find it hard going when someone is faster than him like George. but where Carl has have that room to make mistakes because of his chin, other fighters don't. unless they get their tactics right, Carl will show them what beast mode is all about. because if they think they're going to outlast him in a dog fight, think again. they need to stay disciplined and use their advantages until the fights over. otherwise, it's good night. Carl can go all night if needs be. his opponents though, have a wall to hit in which they can't go any further than. so they can't make the mistakes that Carl is afforded. i can see it going both ways... George gets his **** together and stays disciplined for a decision using his jab, movement and speed to get his shots off first. but doing so in a cool manner. not using up all his energy being all macho and trying to brawl with Carl, because that will see him finished off down the stretch. it's up to him which way he goes about it. Carl tries to work off the jab, but gets hit by the faster fighter like he did last time. so nothing is going to change there. what he has to bank on, is George being macho for the second time and giving him the opportunities to get his shots off while George is too close and mixing it up. that's his only hope here. so, knowing George likes a fight too much, he'll again make the same mistakes and trade with Carl because he's an idiot who hasn't learnt from the first fight. he just won't be able to help himself. he'll maybe do what he should for the first few rounds, but getting overconfident and looking to put the finishing touches to the performance and letting Carl back into it. at this point George will do exactly what he did the first time by being hot headed, becomes gassed from all the trading, and he'll be stopped around the tenth round in another great fight. they'll be no prizes for second place though. Carl Froch in 10/11 rounds.
This fight's on HBO in the US. Has anyone heard if Andre Ward will be commentating for HBO that night?
Theres not much more i can add from what Assasin has pointed out. Many seem to think, Froch can try and circle using the jab but Groves has the better movement and speed and faster jab., he's not Kessler/Abraham. Groves must jab and pot shot and gradually start hitting Froch with 2-3 punches here and there but not over do it. Groves must also keep his eye on Frochs body language and be more alert to Frochs charges and move and frustrate Froch and attack only on his terms Ala Sugar Ray Leonard, but this can only be done with mental sharpness which wont happen if Groves allows himself into a Slug. Again as Assasin has said theres not much Froch can add to this fight from the first fight, this fight is Groves fight to win or lose. If he has the maturity and Mental discipline and has learned he wins, if he lets his ego rule his heart he loses.
Groves is a much much better boxer with a paper chin Froch is a terrible terrible boxer, with a great chin and decent power It really is a question of groves boxing and not getting into a brawl, because he will lose
Great post assassain What I noticed the first fight that I didn't think was commented on on all that much and what surprised me is how Groves took the centre of the ring from the start. I think he has to do that again because Froch is best when he has a guy backing up, and Groves is fast enough to out-jab and outland Froch from that kind of range, not allowing Froch to get forward momentum. Groves can't go to the ropes. He has the power to hurt Froch when he tries to come in so I'd advise claiming the centre of the ring, using the power shots to keep Froch from coming inside/walking him down and then jabbing and boxing from range in the centre of the ring where he should have an advantage. I try not to play too much attention to the fight build up but I do think Froch might come in better prepared mentally this time, or should I say more pumped up for it. In that he performs well when he isn't the clear favourite, he knows this could be his last fight and knows what Groves brings to the table. But I don't think he can do anything different in the fight: he will have to bite down on the mouthguard and take a shot to land his and hope that he can get to Groves enough to wear him down or hurt him if he wants to win.
1. Learn what sparked means 2. Improve reading comprehension. He picked Groves the first time, he's picking Groves again. It's not that hard to follow.
I think this will be more technical than the first fight for the first few rounds, then become a total brawl around the 4th. I think Groves stops him in the 8th
Froch badly underestimated Groves first time around, he won't do it again, but neither will Groves stupidly trade with Froch with stamina running low
