What does the being European have to do with anything?.Froch especially could as well be from Japan or Kansas with the way he fights, if you are trying to get at the embodying a "cliched euro style".

There isn't some national measuring stick here, and imo none of the fighters in the tourney are more than decent solid fighters.

    That's about right.

They are even less impressive as they fight in a division that has been especially weak as punch since the last decent period that ended in the mid '90s. At least Ward & Dirrell can get better (as they are just 26 years old - Ward in terms of his ring generalship and Dirrell has room to mature physically). The rest of the SMW division is or has been noted by the occasional good but far less than extraordinary fighter at best and somewhat average one dimensional hard working prime no-talents in the aggregate.

Boxing continues it's many generational suffering from a lack of exceptional and extraordinary athletic talent - the kind that is so pervasive or ubiquitous in several other major professional sports.

You know Pete. I really think that they are what you would define as elite for their division. It is just that their division is becoming overrated because of this tournament. Pound for pound they are not elite fighters. Not by far.

They certainly have a very noticeable European style. And are seen as terrific fighters, but on a world level they aren't the best. I could call them overhyped, but they are good fighters, especially in Europe.

You don't think Dirrell, Ward, Bute are not superior to Froch and Kessler?

You think Froch as a european style?.Kessler i can see, though it's really more of a generic textbook approach he has...pretty universal.

Froch is in no way a standup stylist, nor or have anything of the former Soviet amatuer approach in him at all.No tradition in his style whatsoever.
