If he had Kovalev's number he wouldn't of arguably lost their first fight.

Secondly I never saw Kovalev quit, he was stopped after getting hit in the dick, but it was a fight Ward was coming on strong in.

Ward was up by 1 point on 2 cards and down by 3 on the 3rd....the fix was already in.

BUT......that doesn't constitute having someone's number does it.

The same Froch who retired so he wouldn’t have to answer to GGG call?

Yeah he said he thought it was going to be very tough but he still wanted the fight even if he lost, he wanted that chance for revenge even if he wasn't favourite which is what separates Froch from Ward. He went in to the Bute fight with idea that a loss meant retirement, so clearly he had doubts going in, but he didn't run from the tough fights as he wasn't scared to lose.

He would of lost, I have no doubt about that. Ward was all wrong for him and was simply too good. I still would of liked to see it though as a fan of both men.

I've seen no evidence that Froch ever wanted a Ward Rematch. NONE.........

    Watch your tongue boy.

Froch has given Ward plenty of respect and credit, however there is no denying that Ward retired when he felt the heat and turned his back on the flames.

And that heat, consisted of the likes OF Bivol, Usyk, GGG, Beterbeiv and a rejuvenated Sergey Kovalev., who all were ready and willing to burn Ward to blazes.

Groves had no real fan base, he wasn’t filling up stadiums before that fight. It was the rivalry they built up and the contraversial stoppage that filled up that arena. I think they could of put that fight anywhere in England at that time.

I would never have fought Froch at Nottingham after I beat him first, they could have set that fight up for the 02 or other venues like that. The money now is a different situation which I’m not sure coz we only have Eddie talking his usual stuff.

He was never going to fight Golovkin, I said so at the time. Any talk of Golovkin at the end was him just trolling and messing with people. He was mentally half retired he just struggled to pull the trigger on his career like a lot of boxers struggle to do. He was hanging around at the end in the hope of a Ward fight, he said that was the only fight that really motivated him as he wanted to avenge that loss.

We've seen other boxers do the same. Lewis hung around for ages waiting for another easy payday from Tyson and fought Vitali instead while waiting for it. When it became apparent he couldn't just coast and expect to keep winning he quit because he didn't have the desire to get into the shape needed to beat Vitali again.

Vitali retired in similar circumstances too. Delayed his mandatory with Stiverne 3 times over a year and a half. Stiverne didn't make him quit, just like Golovkin and Vitali didn't make Froch and Lewis quit, Vitali like them just couldn't admit it was time to retire. Technically Vitali has never officially retired, he only vacated the WBC belt hence why he's still emeritus champion.

I remember he said the best thing to do with Golovkin was avoid him like the plague.

Ward never wanted Stevenson. Neither did Hopkins or Kovalev's people. Stevenson even offered to come down when Ward was still at 168.

Excellent post, these are the reason why he retired. Why fight another dangerous opponent in Bivol or Stevenson or Gvozdyk when you aren’t gunna get paid as much and will get less credit than the two Kovalev wins.

Horrible to watch is subjective, he doesn’t fit your model of an entertaining fighter but I actually find interesting to watch.

To say talent wise he isn’t on the same level is one of the silliest statement, do you realise this man has not officially lost a fight in 20 years? Even a guy Loma has and that was against a less than ‘talented’ Salido.

True before the fight he wasn't a big name just another contender yet to be proven. The Froch fights took him to another level though, hence why he's been able to sell big arena's like the MEN and even had a fight in a small stadium like Bramall Lane. And yes the rivalry would of sold out anywhere the hype surrounding the rematch was special, never experienced a fight like that in the build up. That's what Ward didn't get when he asked for the fight at Wembley stadium, he was never going to fill 90K seats.

While I get why he didn't want the fight in Nottingham, his alternative being Wembley was the stuff of pipe dreams he simply didn't give a workable alternative venue, he might as well of asked the fight to be on the moon.

Even if Ward had wanted it elsewhere, the O2 arena was too small, it has less than half the capacity of the City ground at Nottingham. And if Hearn had suggested an alternative he would of also cut Wards purse as the live gate would be smaller. If Ward had his way he would of likely screwed Froch like Kovalev in the rematch and Froch was never going to give up that much just to secure the rematch at that point of his career.

Cool then the fight doesn’t happen if you guys believe Eddie can’t sell a Ward fight outside of Nottingham you are mistaken and real underestimate the pull Eddie has with Casuals.

Ward didn't have the prettiest style but I to found him fascinating to watch. I love technical fighters and I loved watching him diffuse a fighter and disarm them over the course of the fight.
