Sorry, but down to earth people. Lucian Bute was another unbeaten hype job who never fought anyone. In case you did not know, boxing is all about Levels. If you are Levels above someone you are going to look Levels above them. Froch was quite simply Levels above Bute. They said the same thing about Jeff Lacy - about how he would woop Calzaghe. But we all know what happened there. Carl Froch is a great warrior who will fight anyone, but great fighter? No chance. Put him in with Andre Ward again and it will be another outclassing. Why? Ward is on another Level. Simple. A lot of people will have watched this fight and think Froch has improved and will give Ward a good fight next time. He did not improve, he just fought a lesser opponent.
Anyone who thinks Froch hasn't improved is an idiot. They worked on speed and guile in this training camp, which Froch showed. Speed and guile were completely absent against Ward. Boxers are in a catch 22 situation most of the time. Bute was unbeaten and highly rated before the Froch fight, after the fight he is an unproven, overrated fighter. Yet the guy who actually made him look like this doesn't get the credit. It was Froch who made Bute look overrated, give him the respect he deserves.
No, Bute v Froch wasn't a Bute v Calzaghe moment , after the Bute v Andrade first fight there were significant questions being asked regarding Bute's chin and this was never the case in the build up to Lacy v Calzaghe . Mc and Carl I suspect knew dam well they had the blueprint to best Bute and so did a number of the so called boxing experts in the polls This wasn't the case when Lacy fought Calzaghe .
No, that's the point he ain't , you forget Lacy was attempting a unification bout and had destroyed everyone put in his path prior to fighting Calzaghe .
He didn't destroy omar sheika and that fight showed before the calzaghe fight he might not be as good as certain sections were hyping him up to be.
I think a lot of the comments about Bute have been a bit exaggerated. He may not be the fighter many made him out to be but he isn't bad either. He just got hit by a few decent shots, couldn't take the power and ended up getting stopped. He may well be a level beneath Ward but he's a level above the likes of Lacy at the same time, who was nothing but hype. Bute has some substance behind it and schooling Johnson with ease, stopping Andrade, easily beating Bika etc., aren't the sign of a great fighter but it proves he isn't inept at world level either. A large problem Bute had was inexperience. Yeah, he may have had 30 fights and made 10 title defences but he wasn't experienced against someone like Froch in this kind of situation. The way he went to the ropes with ease and tried covering up by simply putting his arms to the side of his face was the sign of an inexperienced fighter who had no real idea how to properly defend himself. He left himself open to Froch's punches because he hadn't been in that situation before and hadn't been taught how to do it. It's all well and good beating opponents like Brinkley, Magee and Mendy but they don't prepare a fighter for the sort of firefight Froch can drag an opponent into. Bute went from going through no adversity at all, which wasn't solely down to poor opposition but rather his own qualities, and was then put in a fight where he faced massive adversity. He felt the full force of what a padded record can do. It gave him an undeservedly big ego, which probably made him think it'd be another easy night, and it didn't give him the experience that he desperately needed. All that said, there's no reason why he can't come back from it. I don't think he's a bad fighter at all and whilst his chin looks to be a weakness and gives his future opponents have a clear gameplan, if he works on his weaknesses, he can pick up another world title, I'm confident of that. He wasn't outboxed for 12 rounds, which would be far more problematic, he simply didn't have the chin to avoid getting hurt or the experience to see him survive when he was hurt. All that aside, I think you can start to underrate a victory when you focus on the losing fighter's weaknesses. Bute has them, we all knew that before the fight, but there was a reason he was favoured. He's a high class, hard hitting boxer who rightfully earned a reputation as one of the best body punchers in the sport. We all knew what he was before the fight and many still picked him to win. That's why it was so impressive for Froch to walk all over him. He went into the ring as the underdog, against a huge bodypuncher and a guy who had stopped 8 of his last 10 opponents, and yet Froch still went to war. That mentality is impressive. He took Bute's best shots, walked through them and dished back something Bute couldn't swallow. This seems to be an all too frequent response after a Froch win though. It's been happening since the Pascal fight. If he beats a guy, the opponent is garbage and when he loses, it's because Froch is poor himself. Maybe it's because of his unorthodox style that people refuse to give him, or his opponents, the credit they deserve? Maybe there's a hint of "If Bute got stopped by caveman Froch, he must be ****" in there. If that is the case, I think it's completely undeserved. Froch is a world class fighter and maybe Bute is too. I think he is and I think he'll bounce back, proving a lot of people wrong who have written him off already.
Yeah I agree. Anyone who loses at world level is a hype! This is exactly what I said would happen in another thread. Froch would be in a lose - lose situation because bellends would go on to discredit Froch's win because Bute was untested. The same Bute who has pretty much destroyed everyone else, and had a far easier night with Johnson than Froch did. Make no mistake, Bute is still very much a world level operator, and Froch's performance and win is right up there amongst the best I've seen from a British fighter. I'd go so far as to say it was a better win that Hatton - Kosta
Bute lopsidedly defeated two guys who are in the Ring top ten for the division right now. Somebody handed him his ass and it actually erased history. Now Bute has actually fought nobody. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVSRm80WzZk[/ame] What better way to insult Froch's great performance? And how convenient to forget why it was a great performance.
