Firstly I am a massive Froch Fan...... However I have a sneaking suspicion that this injury may be to save face and not fight Degale this spring. Froch can then fight Julio Cesar Chavez in the summer. At this stage of his career I think Froch has the right to fight who he wants and when, however i would have preferred him to say that he wants no part of a Degale fight and is setting his sights on a summer fight in Vegas and vacate the title. I personally think Degale is a difficult fight for Froch, but one he would be victorious in. Will he be stripped of the belt if hes out due to injury?nono:nono
Why would he? Carl is a true champ coming to the end of his career. he wants a payday and out. It would be a step down from the Groves fight and wouldn't do nearly as much in ticket sales or ppv
I just cannot see Froch giving up the IBF belt but i dont think he wants any part of DeGale So who knows
Even without the injury he wouldn't be facing DeGale in the spring. He was set to face Chavez Jr in March so DeGale was never going to be a fight that was ever going to happen in the spring. Froch wants one big fight that will pay well to finish his career and DeGale simply doesn't fit that criteria. Froch has said so himself that if he doesn't get Chavez Jr in Vegas he'll simply retire he doesn't have the motivation to just keep hold of the title and facing opponents that do nothing for him.
I agree with most points, however why not just make it clear, vacate the belt and let Degale and another opponent to fight for the belt. it just seems a little drawn out to hold onto the belt when he has no intention of fighting Degale. I think the Chavez fight will be a good one, I also think Carl will have one more fight after Chavez and I wouldn't be surprised to see him back sharing a ring with Ward!
DeGale will get his shot at the title after Froch retires. While it's not an ideal situation to be in for DeGale things like this happen in boxing, nobody can foresee injuries occurring. But I agree it is a bit harsh. The IBF did order the mandatory fight to be arranged by Jan but they are not stupid a fight with Chavez Jr is a very lucrative fight that will bring a big sanctioning fee, they will happily ignore their own rules and orders as long as Froch has Chavez Jr as an opponent.
Carl wants no part of Ward,Andre Dirrell, Anthony Dirrell, Degale, Kovalev. So I guess it's JCC Jr. than retire or fight old ass Barnyard Hopkins...
