I love the fact that everyone says Froch has problem with Speed when hes beaten 2 of the fastest guys between 168-175
Nope, Froch has good handspeed, excellent timing, counters well, has a hurtful jab, a few decent powerful power shots, a great chin, stamina and determination. As regards the Taylor fight on any fair card, Froch was only 1 point down going into the final round so with the knockdown he SHOULD have won it without the stoppage. And that was a below par fight for Carl!
I'm a Froch fan and am going to the fight but I scored the fight objectively. Let's say the fight goes to the end WITH the knockdowns. I scored it 116-112, let's just count the one KD for JT and say by some miracle he survives that last barrage, plus Froch's KD in the 3rd; 114-111. Froch does indeed have a good chin and stamina. He has a huge amount of heart, but his size and strength stop from from being a 'Gatti-type'. He doesn't get knocked around, gets tagged alot but he was brought out early against Taylor without sufficient time for warming up and that's maybe why he started so slow. People say it's to do with 'the gulf in class' but Pascal has shown himself to be a decent and possibly very good fighter (depending on how he continues his LHW tenure) I think Dirrell will be scoring a lot and if he manages to stay away he will win a decision. I just think well, he's undefeated, he's visiting, it's the Super-Six tournament where all these guys are going to try and show their superiority, and the build-up is going to be CONSTANTLY; 'Dirrell must outspeed Froch and try and stay away. Froch has an iron chin and it would be a bad idea to trade with him'. Dirrell, being undefeated and confident, at one point is going to say' This fight is EASY. He ain't so bad' and elect to trade with Froch. he did it with Oganov at a few points. In fact this fight may look similar to that for a while (and if Dirrell keeps it up possibly all the way through, Froch HAS been dropped so maybe he can be stopped, I say it's his immense conditioning that gets him through patched as well as his chin so he should survive Dirrell) until Dirrell elects to trade briefly or tries to launch a sustained attack. His head movement isn't all that; that's when Froch walks through him IMO
If the referee hadn't stopped it then Taylor still wouldn't have won no matter the points scores and would now be an ex-boxer, at best.
Agreed. Whilst I agree with Richard Steele's decision completely, this was not like the Taylor-Chavez fight with just a few seconds remaining. Taylor was just about to drop and defenceless (his hands had dropped to his waist on the final punch) with a little over 10 seconds left. Either he goes down and cannot be saved by the bell. Or by some strange misfortune he stays up and gets retired (and I don't mean by his corner.)
Froch did come into the fight cold but I disagree with you on the scores. maybe you score flash? Showtime, ITV, press row all agreed (or came every close to agreeing) with my card. Anyway I agree that maybe Dirrell could win this fight if he manages to stay away from Froch for 12 rounds but considering that Dirrell has never even been in a 12 round fight, let alone one against someone of Frochs caliber, I find it a very unlikely outcome. Regards i'm also going to see the fight. Can't wait.
i don't think taylor has better timing at all... but i guess i have to ask what do you mean by timing i think this is a pick'em, from the outset i thought froch would win but the more i think about it, the more i believe dirrell has a very good chance in this fight, he is elusive when he wants to be and when he engages he is fast, accurate and hurtful yeah he is super flashy
No, I always score with a good mix. Every round is different and one or a number of things can sway me in my mind. I have to say the rounds were close as the fight progressed but Taylor did land significant clean blows in the final 20-to-10 second flurries he performed at the end. I do think Froch was bossing his fight with the jab late on though, something people have failed to see (someone even said he just had a 'flicky' jab......yeah, but boy can he drive it home as well) Regards as well, I can't wait, come on Frochy :good
By timing I mean the ability to time your opponents punches and use their offence as a weapon in your own offence htting them cleanly because you are able to anticpate exactly where they will be when your punch connects. To me that is a far more important attribute than speed. See Juan Marquez for an expert in timing punches even though he isn't the fastest guy (not that he's by any means slow!)
Cool. Thanks for the reply, I always enjoy reading your posts. I hope it'll be an exciting fight regardless of the outcome. I'm sure it will be
He really needs to knock Dirrell out. He's fighting a guy whose best win is this guy. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iywlRqsKJk
I made a point about Dirrell actually stopping to trade with Oganov at times. I actually think Dirrell could do that to Froch, but if he admires his work and thinks 'this guy ain't that tough' and opts to trade; well that's a big mistake. Pavlik beat Zuniga and Bute destroyed him in his match following the Oganov fight. Dirrell's resume is poor but he has skills. My friend came up with an interesting theory; as a potential 'star', undefeated champion with exciting properties Showtime isn't going to wipe Frochy out early. His theory is that they are feeding Dirrell to him so Froch can look impressive early. I personally don't believe this as I rate Dirrell's skills but his resume is poor and no indication on whether he can truly 'cut it'.
