A Froch-Dirrell fight would be MUCH cheaper to buy. They could probably air it as a special edition of ShoBox instead of as Showtime Championship Boxing.
No, but it's an easier fight for Froch than Dirrell or Ward (#2 and #3), so this is the fight Mick Hennessy would push for. Not sure Johnson would take it though. He's never fought more than an 8 rounder, mostly against chumps.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that Froch is uproven. He just won a 12-round war against a previously undefeated fighter. Not to mention the fact that it netted him a world title. Had Froch eeked out a close decision in a nondescript fight we still may have been wondering what he's all about as a fighter but he put it all in the ring that night front and center against a fighter in Pascal who came to win. Froch slugged, he boxed (his jab was superb in the middle rounds), and he took some cracking shots that showed how durable his chin is. Sure, Pascal is only one fighter but he asked a lot of questions of Froch that night and the Cobra answered them. If Froch is unproven it's only because he hasn't faced a bunch of different styles yet. Other than that, he is clearly a proven world-class fighter. It's not some domestic belt that he picked up by beating Pascal.
if i was dirrell's promoter i'd be pushing for this big time. a good smart boxer like dirrell will take advantage of froch's disjointed style in my opinion. :bbb
Let's say he's not the same kind of unproven boxer. We just don't know what to expect against a true elite fighter. Pascal not an elite fighter. He was not a top 10 fighter before the Froch fight. But you're right that he's not a local fighter, of course. Dirrell has to face someone serious before his fans prochame his greatness.
It's a mandatory, Hennessy doesn't choose Froch's opponent. The WBC does. They can tell Dirrell and Ward to fight eachother, the winner fights Froch. Or just decide that Dirrell becomes the mandatory.
I understand that, but you're naive if you think the promoters have no part in determining who is named the mandatory. The WBC jumps people and makes them jump through hoops all the time to appease various promoters. Also, this isn't the best situation in the world for someone to take on. While Froch is an easy win for Dirrell or Ward, there are a lot of good fighters in the top 10 right now. The WBC requires 2 mandatories after you win the belt. That means that if Dirrell takes the fight and beats Froch, his next fight would probably be against Taylor or Ward, and I don't know that DiBella will want to put him up against those types of fighters quite yet, and he almost certainly isn't going to want Taylor to fight Dirrell while he's building back up Taylor's reputation.
That's basically what I meant when I said that he hasn't faced different styles yet. I should have worded it differently. Pascal's not necessarily a top-10 guy but he's no pushover either. It was a very good win for Froch over a very capable fighter.
