If froch improves his defence to a certain level i am pretty sure he will win against pavlik.

Taylor had to hit Pavlik 15 times, along with a few elbows and a head but, to put him down (watch the slo-mo.)

Taylor hit Froch one time, and Froch went down. You tell me what it means.

Froch Pavlik is a GREAT fight. The guy with the better chin wins this. And dare i say it that would be Froch. Im not a bandwagoner in the slightest and its been clear for years Froch is very limited but he possess an excellent punch great conditioning and a good dig. He's always had those attributes. That alone will take him far in this sport.

I've been saying for quite awhile that I hoped Abraham and Pavlik both come away from the June fights looking like monsters. Now I find myself hoping that Abraham performs as poorly against Lorenzo as he did against Simon. Should that be the case, Wegner will not let AA anywhere near Pavlik. He already said as much. That would mean AA would move to 168, and leave no one for Kelly to fight at 160. KP would probably also take a long hard look at moving up himself, and Froch would provide him with a means of instant success in the SMW division.

Pavlik would be a smart move for Froch: Kelly is weaker at 168 and would fight Froch's preferred type of fight. Dawson or Kessler would be much more dangerous and would probably beat Froch (in the case of Kessler, almost certainly).

Pavlik needs to realise that he belongs at 160.

I think Pavlik and Froch have more or less equal chins (maybe); it's Froch's power that would be the big factor, I think.

Dawson would Lacy Froch. He'd toy with him for 12 rounds then probably stop him. Kessler would just KO him in probably 5.

I guess you come to this conclusion because you've seen all 15 of Pavlik's fights that were above 160:think

Not all, but enough to know that he's better at 160.

With Dawson there's an uncertain factor of Chad's chin, but I can definitely see Dawson easily outboxing Froch. In the case of Kessler, I fully agree.

Firstly, there's no reason for this fight to happen yet. Froch has guys to face at 168; I'd like to see him get shown up by Kessler asap, but in the event that that falls through Bute and Andrade are always floating around. Pavlik has business to care of south of 168 with AA potentially being signed and sealed quite soon, and even a potential Paul Williams match-up early next year. He seems reasonably comfortable at making the weight, so I don't see that he needs to start jumping around like a bean quite yet. So, at the moment, this is nothing more than a theoretical fantasy fight. If and when Pavlik does move up, he'll be fighting the best in the division (presuming he succeeds against AA and whoever else) - i.e. the winner of the Froch/Bute/Andrade/Kessler saga.

If this fight does happen, my money's on Pavlik. Pavlik is an expert at killing aggressive fighters, and Froch is just such an aggressive fighter. When the time comes for Pavlik to move up, he'll be a lot stronger at SMW and the size difference won't be an issue; in any case, Pavlik is slightly taller and longer-armed than Froch. I see this being a fight with lots of trading bombs in the centre of the ring, and I think Pavlik's superior jab, better work rate, slightly better defence (and that's not saying much), better P4P power and equally good chin carries him through. I'm still not impressed with Froch.

I'd definitely rather see Pavlik-Abraham first. That's one of the fights that HAS to happen for boxing to thrive: the two best boxers of the day in a legendary division should always fight each other at least once.

Here's the problem with the claim that Pavlik can not do as well at 168 as he does at 160. Although he has fought above 160 many times, he has never been a true SMW. He has always fought as a blown up middleweight. For example, on fight night for Pavlik/Taylor II Kelly weighed 169 in a fight that was contracted at 166. He weighed 171 on fight night against Miranda and 170 for the first Taylor fight.

If he were to make a permanent move to 168, he'd do the thing he needs to do with nutrition and training to add the 8 pounds of lean muscle. Cameron Dunkin is no fool. He'd make sure KP did the right things, and we'd be looking at a different animal.

I agree that Pavlik could potentially be a big force at 168 if he moved up carefully, but then again there's something about having to make 160 that forces Pavlik to train like an animal. It's a bit like Calzaghe: he had to train very hard to make 168, but that's what gave him his ridiculous workrate and stamina.

At any rate, Pavlik has plenty of great wins yet to come at 160. Moving up to 168 will be easier when he's a bit older.
