Agree gneus...groves was always a work in progress in the shadow of haye. People realised even then he had some very good attributes but also vulnerabilities to go with it. If anything the froch fights elevated him maybe a bit too soon. Still think under booth he d have been a better fighter. He was building him the right way the game plans were spot on...groves needed them especially because of his vulnerabilities. The first froch fight should have been about 2 or 3 fights later for him which i think was always booths plan.

I think he went into that froch fight a bit too soon but the performance elevated him a bit too soon also. I actually remember being on here the day after saying i ll tell you all something groves will ask serious questions of ward. Two handed fighter. Great power. Good speed. Great feetwork. Big puncher. Excellent jab. Knew he had slight chin issues but wards not exactly a murderous puncher.

Just shows you how boxing can go bearing in mind according to some wards fighting to become the number one p4p in the world tonight.

But essentially it was off the back of a great 7 or so rounds against froch. I dont think he will go on to fulfill his potential now...as much as i rate him i think his vulnerabilities will hold him back. They probably always would have. But i think another problem is mcguigans a very good coach but hes essentially working with a fighter ingrained with the booth style. Only booth could have got that extra 5 percent out of him for me. Was a good performance from him last night so post might be a little critical...but just think under booth he was better at making opponents wary of coming forward. Held his feet better. Was more of a counterpuncher. If you look back it was the counterpunch that done froch.

Nowadays hes more a front foot fighter only. Needs to stop trading on the inside also.

If Groves hadn't wanted to trade with Froch, he could have easily won the 1st fight, if he had just boxed the last six rounds, but he wanted to prove he could trade with Froch and that was his undoing. I too think if it had gone on a bit longer Froch would have stopped him. He looked spent at the end, but i still think that was his fight for the taking. he was way in front up up to the half way point and could have easily just outboxed Froch the last 6 rounds. But because he decided to trade, Froch wore him down really quickly the last few rounds.

Groves is no ward. Hes not savvy or durable enough to weather Froch relentless pressure

Groves has a very suspect chin, we didn't know this before the first Froch fight. I think he loses 10/10 times to Froch from what we know now. He just doesn't have the chin or the stamina for world level.

Froch admitted there was no point fighting Ward again as outcome would be the same
