SOOOOOOOOO unbelievably typical of English fans to get all hysterical about Froch beating Groves and then ranting on like Children...I remember when I was a kid (silly, immature, stupid) and watching Hagler destroy Alan Minter and being all upset about it and banging on about how Minter was robbed by headbutts (as were all English fans and all English tabloids and Media)....i look back on that fight now and think how pathetic that was as Hagler would of clearly destroyed him anyway. Perhaps when some of these guys grow up they will look back the same way on this Froch Groves fight...the Brits are very weird when it comes to this sort of thing....I am English but havent lived there for more than 20 years and see this as a real cultural oddity about England (its easier to see when you are outside looking in). The commentary in the UK doesnt help the issue and the commentary for this fight was some of the worst I have ever heard. It seems impossible to imagine commentators of any other country becoming so hysterical and unprofessional and subjective. I am looking forward to listening to the ESPN Heavy Hitting Podcast and the Fight News Podcast to see what the real pros say about it now they have had a chance to reflect...
Going back to the Minter/Hagler fight I only saw it once, when it happened, and from what I remember all the damage was done by Haglers fists.Alan was a bit of an unlucky boxer IMO.Robbed terribly in the Olympics, suffered a lot with cuts as a pro.I remember he spun Hagler almost in a circle with a punch but Hagler came straight back. This was a man who mopped up the division before he became champion. Don't know about the commentary, but did you know almost nobody over here gave Groves any kind of chance.Only a very few on the forum said he'd win.But I think the indignation at the decision was justified, but not the terrible reactions to Foster personally.
I remember the fans going crazy and throwing in beer bottles and beer cans at the end of Hagler Minter...some of the most disgraceful scenes ever seen in a boxing match... I know no one gave Groves a chance..which is why it seems so weird that every one is carrying on...it was premature by about 20 seconds...big deal
The damge WAS done by Haglers fists...i guess thats the point....at the time everyone was crying foul about headbutts from Hagler....
Another butthurt Froch fanboy. Hagler-Minter and Froch-Groves... one of the most stupid comparisons I've ever heard atsch Froch got clowned by Groves who was victim of a disgraceful stoppage, if you can't see that maybe boxing is not for you
The stoppage was dodgy, that's all there is to it. You can't predict the future so saying "the fight was stopped 20 seconds too early, that's it", is ridiculous and irrelevant. If that's your stance maybe all refs should stop a fight any time they choose based on what they reckon might happen in a few seconds rather than what is actually ****ing happening huh? I see a pattern forming with Froch fans of late. They will try to defend Froch and give him rounds he wasn't winning, blame the commentary for people's perception of the fight as if Jim Watt was the one who embarrassingly floored Froch and then proceeded to beat the beak off him for 8 rounds, and try to justify the bs stoppage. When they get countered on every one of these points they resort to calling people "hysterical" and "cry babies". Just ****ing admit that the warrior was exposed badly and his career was saved by Foster, end of.
Exposed is a word for a 20-0 hype job prospect whom hasn't faced the best. If you were suprised with Froch being out boxed by a fast athletic fighter then you haven't been watching him. I personally didn't think the fight would go the way it did but there was evidence this was going to happen all over Froch's career. Lets cut the histeria. It was a good fight. Groves was winning. Froch was coming on. Stoppage was too early. **** happens. Froch may be getting old or Groves may just be that good. Who knows. Time will tell.
I'm Scottish but I still want to weigh in on this: I picked Froch to win before the fight but I still want to see both fighters treated fairly in the fight regardless, is that somehow wrong? If I pick a fighter and they lose fairly then there is no complaint, if they win unfairly then there is and that's what happened here -Froch didn't earn a legitimate stoppage when the referee jumped in, he might have if the fight had gone on but maybe Groves would have recovered but we were all robbed from knowing. The biggest issue for me is the hypocrisy in how they were treated by the referee, Froch was hurt a lot worse when he was knocked down compared to when Groves got stopped but Froch was allowed to continue and Groves wasn't which is very unfair. Just because I pick a guy to win doesn't mean that I can't appreciate when the other fighter is being treated unfairly.
Agree and disagree.I thought Dirrell shaded Carl in their bout. But I disagree that he was a novice. He showed the blueprint on how to beat Abraham until fouled, then faded into obscurity.Nobody seems to have come up with an answer as to what happened to him.A real mystery.
The only ring you have been close to is your boyfriends with your tongue ye fanny. If ye didn't have Google ye wouldn't have a clue who Hagler and Minter are so just **** off.Seriously, just **** off.
