Except that Froch was an up-and-coming contender in the same weight division, whereas Cleverly is a 'world' champion in the division above, and as such should be looking to clear out his own nearest competitors and fellow 175lb beltholders. Not that any of it really matters, because Allegedly is a ****ing joke, and he's dragging Cleverly down with him.
The difference between Froch/Calzaghe and Cleverly/Froch is that Froch was calling out Calzaghe when he wasn't fighting legitimate contenders - like Bika at the time, Manfredo and Roy Jones. Froch has fought a who's who of top super middles, and was fighting decent opposition on the way up. Cleverly on the other hand fought better opponents at domestic level than what he's faced since being given the WBO title - Bellew aside - a fight that he lost.
:deal How anyone could accuse Carl Froch of ducking Nathan Cleverly is beyond me. The man has literally fought EVERYONE at 168, often away from home against the odds, and he's done it back to back. Nathan Cleverly is a ****ing joke.
I don't believe he's ducking Cleverly but why hasn't he ever made noises about moving up to 175? He would have the chance at becoming a 2 weight world champion to improve his legacy.
I'd imagine it's because he weighs 172lbs IN the ring! He walks around at 175 so fighting there would be madness, he'd be at a crazy size disadvantage. Bute must have had about a stone on him in the ring as it is.
The reason Froch won't move up is because I believe the same as what somebody posted on here earlier, it would take away all the advantages he has over opponents at 168lbs, just like the same thing that would happen to Ricky Hatton when he went from 140lbs to 147lbs. I don't believe this "he weighs about 172lbs so he's too small" bollox. Look at him, he's a big, tall, muscular lad who could easily pack on a few more pounds of muscle. It's just Froch's whole style is based around him bullying and over-powering his opponents. You saw a fine example of it in his last two fights with Bute and Mack, he was just too strong and aggressive for them to handle. Fighters like Ward and Dirrell who are slick and hard to pin down caused him all sorts of problems because their styles didn't gel with his. If he moved up and fought some big guys at LW like Dawson, Pascal (I know Pascal used to fight at SM) or even Cleverly, I think it would cause him problems because they're all big and aggressive fighters too. I still think he'd beat Nathan at LW if he did decide to move up, he probably just feels like the risk isn't worth the reward and who can blame him?
A bit strong but I cant disagree....I might even break my own self imposed rule and cross the border into Welsh Wales to watch Cleverley get a shellacking if the fight happened
