The man is a professional prize fighter and former super middle weight champ ..I think he long past the tough test !
He's clearly timid and more cautious than he tries to let on. He had Kessler out on his feet and dead tired but allowed himself to get bullied back and out-hustled (Even if he may have managed to scrap the round by cleaning blows). He does seem to manage his nerves or fear well for the most part, though. It's not about being tough and not having fear but being able to control that fear and using it against your opponent. The guys no Rocky Marciano (I've seen the comparison go as far as heart, toughness, and work-ethic) that' s for sure.
He showed true grit against Taylor. He was getting hammered early doors, tasted the canvas for the 1st time in his life and somehow got the win.
spot on. froch's a limited fighter, like margarito, who needed to have balls of steel and a strong mental game to even get this far. i don't understand why anyone would question this side of froch's game.
Stare-downs don't mean a thing. They are for the press to yammer about. The only look that matters pre bell is the one prior to the bell ringing. Froch is a hard ass Lamotta like fighter. Btw Fedor does not do stare-downs because he said something to the effect that it brings out emotions and that those emotions cloud his judgment. Leonard essentially stopped doing them after Wilfredo and claimed they ruined his concentration. Robinson even looked away.
:good there's no doubt at all that staredowns can take a fighter out of the place he needs to be in. if you're the type of fighter who can maintain composure when someone is badmouthing you or trying to take you out of your zone then use it to your advantage. if you can't, distance yourself from it for a few seconds.
Exactly. I enjoyed the Hagler/Hearns eye lock but those two had hamsters running on treadmills in their brain at the time. Some of the greatest fighters ever never did them or where uncomfortable doing them for a variety of reasons. Chicken **** or lack of toughness however does not come to mind.
froch aint even that good got uber hyped by beating a bunch of dudes from england/not the USA but he's not a great fighter
absolutely. get in the ring for the very first time and your mind is either clouding over while you try to piece together what you've been taught in training, or you're thriving on that adrenaline rush and telling yourself that your dick is a damn sight bigger than his is. that's what made tyson so rare and special when he came to the ring, because some of the guys who met him looked like they were just about to have their first competitive fight all over again
