As time goes on, and Groves star shines briIighter and briIighter, people are gonna give Froch more and more credit for a brilliant come from behind TKO victory

Carl Froch - STILL the hardest ******* in baaxing :deal

It only turned out to be stupid for Groves because the ref stepped in when most refs wouldn't have. If that didn't happen it might not have turned out to be stupid (although it might still have).
Also I'm not sure it's so much a case of Groves being stupid because Froch had something to do with it. He kept on coming, pressuring Groves and forcing him to expend energy. Also similar tactics (stand his ground and hit Froch) worked for Groves earlier in the fight. I don't think the tactics were so much different, just the execution of them was worse because he was tired and hurt.

Not with that ending they wont.

Lennox in the TKO6 arguments get the benefit of the doubt from people because Vitali's face was ripped apart and he couldn't safely continue, and he had been given a round or two extra to try and get the win inspite of the bad cuts.

Froch in the TKO9 arguments wont get that benefit of the doubt because Groves was not visibly worse off than him and was still fighting back when the ref pulled him away and robbed him of the chance to show that he could withstand sustained pressure and punishment.

He has to rematch Groves because otherwise as time goes on people are gonna give Froch less and less credit for not proving that he was gonna win anyway and wasn't just given a gift by dodgy officials. If he doesn't rematch him people will believe he ducked him because he knows he was given a gift that he didn't deserve and would lose if they fought again.

It's a really tough one to call, I can see both sides. The stoppage was too early but it is conceivable that Groves gets an 8-count then goes back to trying to trade and gets finished but it's equally conceivable that he gets an 8-count then sees out the round and fights conservatively to a decision.
In my opinon the situation called for an 8-count, if someone is up against the ropes and just covering up and getting hit ie they couldn't fall down even if they were unconscious (think Tommy Morrison against Mercer) then the Ref has to award a KD and give the guy an 8 to make sure he can continue.
I actually don't think it's very entertaining to see guys fight conservatively until the guy is up against the ropes then just keep swinging until the Ref stops it. rewards pushing\wrestling and avoiding both guys staying in the pocket which to me is ultimately what fans want to see (I don't mean brawling\slugging but alternating actual 'defense' not just 'stick and move'\'running away'. Award a KD and get the action going again away from the ropes.

Bull****. The dude deserves an instant rematch. I don't know how Froch could live with himself without giving him an instant rematch.

I totally disagree with some of the people here. Watch Provo vs Alvarado. Alvarado looked done after being KD, but he was able to continue for a while and land good shots on Provo. Now Groves, who was winning, gets hit with a few hard shots but not even close to be a stoppage (and certainly not close to the punishment that Alvarado was taking), can't make it a few more rounds fighting more conservatively?

Same with Bradley vs Provo, that ref would have stopped that fight in round 1 or something. Any time any of the two fighters took a few hard shots it would have been over.

    Thanks :good

I'd like to add that I agree the stoppage was too early but I still think Carl was going to finish him personally. I said somewhere else how damaging early stoppages can be and in this case I think it did Froch the bigger disservice, if he managed to beat Groves more convincingly he would be given much less of a harder time going another route. As it is, people don't even think he won at all! and if he does take the rematch its very uncertain he will win if George makes a couple of adjustments, very bad situation. What an idiot ref, ruined a great fight, messed up the fighters and really left a ton of questions, it was a really bad decision.
