Froch-Johnson scorecards were b.s.

Well, this fight could've been better. Good in spurts, and dull in spots. I expected Glen to be pressing the action and in Froch's chest more quickly than the way he went about it, but he still did a good job of dictating the pace of the fight. Froch didn't seem interested at all in engaging with Glen for much of the fight, which I found kind of odd. He was looking towards his corner and I have no idea why--just fight, man. I thought this would look along the lines of Froch-Pascal, but it just didn't have that exuberance or pace of that fight.

I thought based on the wide scorecards, those two judges must not have seen Glen landing jabs and doing bodywork, because I just don't see how one can come up with a 117-111 scorecard. Glen dictated the pace, landed jabs and bodywork, and did a good job of landing his overhand right. I just didn't feel as though Froch imposed his will enough in this fight. He was coming on strong in the later rounds, but it's not like he was dominating the fight or anything. A lot of what Froch was doing, especially in the first half of the fight, was ineffective. He was backpeddaling too much and his shots simply weren't landing with much regularity.
I had it even after 6 rounds. So, here's my scorecard:

I agree with the Japanese judge. It was a draw. But, I plan on going back and watching this fight a couple more times on YT when it gets posted. I plan on looking closely at the number of punches Carl lands in each of the rounds, and then tallying that amount for each round. I will do the same for Johnson.

I thought Glen could've done a better job of slipping shots when he was in the pocket, sliding out, and then landing his own. I was disappointed that his output wasn't what I was used to seeing from him. He said in the post-fight interview that he had planned on boxing more, but I don't think that was the issue. I think he just needed to throw more hard shots. The right hand was there for him all night, and he should've thrown it more than he did. Because when it landed, it landed hard, and had an effect.

As for Carl, he left a lot of gas in the gas tank. A pretty disappointing affair when he's fighting off the back foot most of the night against a 42-year-old fighter who dropped down in weight, and wasn't as active as he usually is. Froch is gonna have to fight a lot better than he did tonight if he plans on beating Andre Ward.

 

Froch by 3 or 4 rounds for me son... I got up at 4:30am this morning to watch this fight
