Froch - Kessler Punch Stats

Excellent work. I did this once with the JMM and Pacquiao fight. Lets just say HBO punch stats are crap. Did you slow mo the fight and watch to see if a punch actually landed? Sometimes shots can appear to land when they hit fighters gloves or elbows and have a significant force behind them. The best fighter to watch in slow mo is mayweather. The man is a beast and its almost scary how fast his reflexes are. :good

 

Punches thrown are used to give the impression of activity or controlling the fight. Its misleading from that point of view if Frochs waving is included in the punch-stats.

 

those stats are worth **** all my friend as they are not true.

 

I probably won't even rewatch the fight never mind count the punches

But I'd bet Froch landed as many shots - and they were certainly better quality

He had by FAR the better jab on the night, and he had Kessler going a few times

I know TFFP puts a lot of emphasis on the fact Kessler was going forward - but IMO Froch did that deliberately to bring him onto his punches

On numerous occasions Froch sent him backwards, and on those occasions Kessler was in trouble to varying degrees

 

IF Froch going backwards was a deliberate ploy then he needed to be a lot more active to win the fight.

 

Yeah and Froch's corner was pleading with Froch to get going and take Kessler's jab off him because their plan was working out just the way they wanted it to. And Froch let himself get caught on the ropes to show of his brilliant counterpunching skills. Froch's ideal tactic is not to fight on the backfoot as he did for the most of the fight.

Let it go man. Hard fought close fight with Kessler as the winner.

 

Why is the Froch/Kessler fight turning this forum into a carbon copy of the general forum? Getting ****ing tiring.

Its not so much I put emphasis on going forward, I'm not somebody that 'likes' to a see certain thing. It was more that Kessler had Froch doing what he's not accustomed to doing, he took control of the ring. That is one of the 4 scoring criteria, ring generalship, and I think Kessler dominated in that respect. Froch didn't convince me he was comfortable going backwards to say he was in control of things.

Sure Froch sent him backwards when he was punching, he's a heavy puncher. Anybody is going to have a hard time walking forward through those punches. It's common sense to try and see out those bursts from Froch.

 

I agree with this 100%. Froch has never been a fighter to go into the corners and let his opponent tee off on him.

He was being bullied by Kessler at various points.

 

When Kessler didn't press the action and let Froch off Froch put pressure on Kessler almost immidiately. It was clear to see that Kessler fought a fight that he wasn't used to. If he hadn't gone to the body and kept a consistent pressure on Froch then I actually think that he would have been knocked out.

Respect to Froch he is relentless.

 

And to Kessler , he knew he had to fight in a way that didnt come naturally to him , and when your'e being hurt and are still able to fight outside your comfort zone that takes a focus and mental toughness I didnt think he had.

 

This guy has put no effort into this wind up.

Only 4 punches from Kessler in the first round can be so quickly dismissed, nobody is really going to bother reading the rest.
