Froch may earn Sky deal for next defence

At the end of the day they need to stop putting absolute crap on PPV like David Haye bull**** and Amir Khan garbage.

Carl Froch is more credible and exciting than these two put together so what the **** is going on.

David Haye fights bums on PPV time and time again and bores us all to death and makes boxing look pointless to the casual fan.

Carl Froch fights a top name GUARENTEED every fight has a war...wins! and cant get on decent TV?? Its a ****ing joke.

Sky need to get their priorities right.

I hope so. It's so frustrating seeing Haye getting all this publicity, money and fame when he's putting on **** like Haye-Harrison, whilst the Cobra fights anyone anywhere and always puts on a show. If anyone deserves this it's Carl.

 

He gets more than that now. Sky were so desperate to get the Audley fight they offered Haye a better deal. He also gets a minimum guarentee.

 

If you have a fighter who sells half a million PPV's and earns your company millions of pounds, and he comes to you and says he wants to put his top prospect, who holds a domestic title and his in entertaining fights, you wouldn't give him a tv date because of the principle??

When he said there isn't room what he means is there isn't the budget.

If Froch comes on board with Sky, something else will be sacrificed to make up the numbers.

 

It wasn't his decision. Sky don't want any live sport that they don't already have a contract for taking away viewers from something they have spent millions on.

you lot expect to much from Sky. Why not question why ESPN or ITV are not showing it...the BBC for that matter?

The reason Froch is on Primetime is becasue he gets paid more by them than Sky offered. end of story.

 

Cricket hopefully, dreadful excuse of a sport. I read on "this is notthingham" today that he has his meetin with sky in london tomorrow. Ideally, get him signed up tomorrow and then have him on ringside tomorrow evening. Could happen, if they are gonna have him at their studios tomorrow like.

 

Because i pay nearly 40 euro a month to the ****s thats why i expect them to pull the finger out and show what i and many others want which is proper fights.

 

I dont give a **** about Haye or how much he earns Sky. The simple point I am making is that this packed roster wasnt an excuse for giving Haymaker a date and it shouldnt have been used as an excuse for not giving Froch a date - at least he fights the best in his division and that is what boxing fans want to see. Not bull**** 'events' that are no more than a sugar coated turd. Give Froch the full Sky marketing machine for a few fights and see how many ppvs he sells.

 

How much of that 40 euro is for Sky Sports?? and how many just pay it for the boxing??

People seem to remember this mythical world where every world title fight was shown for free back in the day on BBC1 and every Sugar Ray Leonard fight was delayed on sunday afternoon at 6pm on ITV.

 

The excuse about the packed roster doesn't mean theres no free dates, it means there no budget left to pay for a Froch fight. The boxing department will get a budget for the year from Sky bosses.The budget will be based on the amount of subcription money they recieve, and based on the number of viewers boxing gets compared to other sports and how much it costs to produce each of the shows.

Sky promise boxing fans at least one live show per week. They deliver on this. They also produce a magazine show each week. In addition they use the remainder of the budget to bring certain fights from the US. Sky are in a position where they do not need to gain any more subscribers based on boxing. If you a boxing fan your either going to have a sky subscription already, or you will never get one no matter what. They don't need to go over budget to try and attract new subscribers like Setanta did, which means they don't need to offer Carl Froch more than the standard rate for his level of fight.

Also Sky met with Hennesey before the Kessler and Abraham fights and they couldn't agree a deal. Hennesey wen't to primetime where he got offered more than Sky offered him.

The cost of showing George Groves vs Toney will of been no more than 40k and within Sky budget. Hennesey wanted 300k for the Jermain Taylor fight, he would want a simular amount for Kessler and AA. That would be Skys boxing budget for 1,2 months blown.

I guarentee Froch agaisnt anybody doesn't sell as many PPV's as Haye vs Harrison. Froch agaisnt a returning Calzaghe doesn't sell as many as Haye vs Harrison. Froch vs Johnson will be in the US, at 3am, how many PPV's will it sell?

The amount that Amir Khan is being paid by sky for the Maidana fight, will be the same amount Froch will be offered and if Hennesey and Froch want the profile they should accept that amount.

 

Again, it hasn't been confirmed that Froch-Johnson will be in the states. People say its been written into the contact but this tournament has had so many changes. Like every fight, the venue will be dictated by where it makes most money and thats Nottingham and Sky will probably have a say in that too. Makes absolutely no sense for Froch-Johnson to fight in the states, it would end up costing more money to put on the fight than what they would take in at the gate. I agree with you though about Froch and Hennessy accepting a similar deal that they give to Khan. They have to think long term, he could earn much more for the final and more still if he gets through all that and fights Bute or rematches Pascal.

 

Its makes sense to Showtime who will get a higher viewing figure from a live fight rather than tape delayed. Showtime won't care how much more money Sky or anyone else pay Froch. Showtime have Froch locked down for two more fights and what they say goes as what they pay far outweighs what Sky or the arena in Nottingham will make them.

Showtime have shown Froch's last 3 fights, and paid him $1million for each. Only Dirrell was shown live and that wasn't primetime in the US. They have been OK with this because it was an investment, that they would cash in on with Froch fighting in the US on primetime in the semi and final.

I agree about thinking long term which is why I think Froch vs Johnson ends up on Sky.
