ward is better than anyone calzaghe beat but froch never beat him he got schooled,

i would say kessler in 2007 and 08 hopkins were a league above anyone froch has beaten

faded eubank, lacey were deffo on same level as taylor, a.a and bute. some will laugh but i think woodhall, mitchell and reid were in there league

Sorry, but Froch still doesn't have the 'greater legacy' when comparing the two.

Yeah because Peter Manfredo Jr and Tocker Pudwill was so much better.

  4. He has fought better fighers but that's about it
    Calzahge was a better figher
    Arguably best SMW ever
    Top 10 british ATG
    Much more popular
Oh and sports personality of the year

For me legacy includes all of the above and not just your oppenents faced

If you want testament to how good Calzaghe was. He won the acclaim of the US boxing world. At first, like Froch now, Calzaghe was called out as a ducker, over-hyped, all the usual stuff.

But over time, he proved to the world just how special he was. A class boxer. He beat the best they had on away ground. He beat the "next big thing" Lacy, we all know he didn't just "beat" Lacy. he mentally scarred him.

Kessler was at the peak of his powers, and Calzaghe beat him, in what Joe says is one of his toughest fights.

He dethroned Eubank in what Joe says is his toughest fight.

OK he faced Hopkins and Jones Jr when they weren't in the peak, but they still carried on after Joe left the sport. Hopkins went on to get more success. Jones Jr didnt do much afterwards, apart from schooling the same Jeff Lacy. Mikkel Kessler also went on to prove himself.

Calzaghe earned the respect of the US. No doubt Carl Froch has to, but I tell you what, there is plenty in the US who know their boxing, and think Carl Froch is still average skill wise. His heart, determination and chin gets him through fights, sees him win some fights, because he wants it more.

Difference is, Calzaghe didnt have to rely on those things, he relied on his ability to box.

Look at it like this Joe Calzaghe is like Barcelona, multi-functional, can rely on more than one thing, can do it with the best, and can destroy the best.

Carl Froch is like Stoke. His heart, chin, self belief and dedication got him to the Premier League, saw him mix it with some of the best of this generation. But at the very very top, he falls short. He doesn't have that bit extra to topple a giant or a true ELITE.

Whereas Calzaghe swept aside fighters like they were nothing.

Froch can say what he wants about legacy, its all done in his "warrior" act....he keeps talking about Calzaghe because he is always on his mind. He knows he is not as good, and not as loved. He would have got his arse handed to him had he fought Calzaghe and that eats him up.

Froch should just shut up and concentrate on himself, before he takes his eye of the ball and gets sparked out. Great chin or not.

Yep. People don't give them the credit they deserve but in his prime Robin Reid was a great fighter and a great champion. Richie Woodhall too. You can't beat them if you're an over-hyped mug. The whole problem with Calzaghe's career was that he had the talent, he just didn't prove it often enough by fighting top fighters.

Lacy was ****ing rubbish, let's be honest.

It's an insult to Calzaghe to say he's one of his best opponents.... a brilliant performance but the opponent was dire.

He never won a fight afterwards in a convincing manner, receiving a close decision over Peter Manfredo, and then being executed by an even older Roy Jones than the one that Calzaghe smacked around for 12 rounds.

The likes of Reid and Woodhall were superior opponents - though of course it's difficult to say where Woodhall was at that point, given that he didn't fight again. Reid never really reached the heights again either.

Calzaghe would've out manouvered Froch on the inside or outside and confuse him with hand speed and use of angles. Also, although not as heavy handed as Froch Joe would be far more effective when assuming the role of puncher/pressure fighter than Carl would be.Froch would be made to look flustered when denied room.
We've seen what happened to Froch when he stepped up to elite level(Ward). He got schooled. Calzaghe on the other hand competed in a very even fight and sneaked a victory when he tried it(Hopkins).

Ridiculous. The wins over Hopkins and Kessler outstrip anything Froch has done.

    :good

Carl Froch is overrated, and so are most of his victories. What do they count for - Bute, Mack, Abraham, Dirrell, Johnson? If as soon as he fights true elite in Andre Ward, gets utterly found out? He struggled against Jermain Taylor for 10-11 rounds, he lost to Mikkel Kessler, who Joe beat.

    Good fighter - yes
    Tough fighter - yes
    Great fighter - Absolutely not

    Joe Calzaghe

    Good fighter - yes
    Tough fighter - yes
    Great fighter - yes
Better than Carl Froch - On another planet, why are we having the conversation?

I don't think Kessler was shot and due to both fighters styles it was always going to be a close bruising battle in which Froch was away from home, I expect it to be pretty much the same in the rematch only with Froch coming off the better this time round.
