Froch has been in some extremely hard fights over the last few years, Pascal,Taylor,Kessler,Abaham and Johnson. In his fight against Johnson I could see that it was not the usual Froch in the ring, it was like he was unable to move his feet like he usually does...and you can see him shaking his legs more than once, like he is trying to bring some life into them. I´ve never seen Froch so slow in the ring...and I think his strong will was what gave him the victory. Im a fan of Froch, hes not afraid of anyone and his fights is most of the time very entertaining. I even find his big mouth and great confidense quite amusing. I think he showed signs of fatigue in the Kessler fight, but now its even worse. I think he needs a good break before the Ward fight or he might get Ko´ed.

he is tough he will continue like this, I think in frochs mind he wants big fights, only way he goes to a easy fight is if he gets ko'd eventually.
I wish everyone had this mentality.

It must be psychologically exhausting to have to be 100% focused throughout training and the actual bout all the time. It seriously takes it's toll, which is part of the reason in my mind that Dirrell dropped out. I don't begrudge Dirrell that really, but have much admiration for Froch.

Boxing is 90% mental. Froch and Ward are two of the most strong willed in the super 6. Johnson was also strong willed. You learn a lot about who has the most heart when you see tournaments like this.

Froch vs Ward is 50/50. Froch did look slower this fight than usual, it could be hes getting older but I doubt it as he seems to be in his prime. It could be that he's tired. There are a lot of possibilities.

I do know Ward is younger than him and Ward's legs will be his only advantage. Froch will have to win on technical skill, determination, chin, and power. Froch will have to counter punch Ward and time him similar to what Mosley tried to do against Pacquiao or similar to how Wlad or Vitali fights a smaller younger guy.

Ward is weak to the body. Froch would be wise to attack the body early on as Ward gets hit with body punches. Froch should make use of the jab to the body, the up jab, and his famous uppercut all which could land on Ward.

Most importantly, Froch will have to make it a rough dirty fight not a classic boxing match. Froch is not going to beat Ward unless he backs Ward up. Ward unlike Dirrell can fight very well going backwards and Ward unlike Dirrell has perhaps the best technical skills in boxing. I think for Froch it's going to be very difficult to get over the technical style of Ward unless he uses his technical abilities himself.

Froch did a lot of things wrong in the Johnson fight. This was not one of his best showings. His footwork was too slow. He did have good handspeed and power. He will have to use angles, he will have to use surprise or sneak moves.

For Froch to beat Ward he is going to have to add a new dimension to his style. He will have to disguise his punches in the same way he disguises his famous uppercut because Ward has excellent reflexes. One way to do this would be jabs to the body, up jabs, using his length, but also he has to constantly change his rhythm. The problem with Ward (and Froch currently) is they are both rhythm fighters. Froch will have to keep Ward out of his rhythm all night by constantly changing his movements, feinting, throwing decoy punches or even decoy combinations to land one big shot.

But it's possible. Froch is smart enough to beat Ward. Froch is tough enough to beat Ward. And Froch has all the natural physical advantages except footwork. Ward basically will have to win on technical ability, footwork, and make it a very boring chess match of a fight. He doesn't have the power to back Froch up, and hes not the naturally bigger man so he wont have the reach to pick Froch apart with a jab. He will have to get in close and Froch will have many opportunities to land jabs to the chin, body, or his uppercut, or body shots or even combinations to set up body shots.

The key is Froch will not be able to throw the 1-2 jab hook. He will have to throw a body jab, up jab, hook, and then a hard bodyshot to the hip, liver, or chest. When Ward adapts to expecting the hardest shot to being the final punch in the combination, he has to change it up, maybe make the first punch the hardest, or the third, but the point is combinations are used so that the fighter wont know when the haymaker is coming.

You can see Johnson and Hopkins do this a lot.

This is what boxing is about .Competing at the highest level with little breaks in between ..This is how an all time great fine tunes his craft ..People should take note from these guys in the super 6 ! Froch and Ward are great examples as to what Champions are made of !

disagreed...he only fights twice a year...it aint like its back in the days where fighters fought 3-5 times a year. if you only fight twice a year it better be good opponents.

huge difference fighting 3-5 times a year and four of them against bums, compared to twice a year against top-rate comp like froch and ward have done

Since when? It's a recent phenomenon and it certainly hasn't always been expected or desired. Fighting often, yes - fighting at the highest level often, no.

Froch has faced some of the best competetion available in the SMW division in his last 6 fights.. It's not only tough on your body because of the hard fights, and the rough training camps, that is required for these big fights.. It also takes alot of mental tougness, since there is always alot of hype, media, questions etc. surrounding these big fights.. And 6 of them in a row has to take a toll on a boxer...

It would be a mistake to let off the gas in his prime.

maybe make the final as late as can be in the year, maybe early November, giving the fighters at least approx 6 months.. Not that ward needs a break, froch would certainly benefit from it.

    A break?

Yes the Pascal and Taylor fights must have taken a lot, but since then he's hardly been in any grueling fights.

    1. Dirrell - He spent most of the time running.
    2. Kessler - Yup, this was a tough fight.
    3. Abraham - A sparring session. Didn't have a single glove laid on him. Abraham was ****ing useless.
    4. Johnson - Not seen the fight yet, but it can't have been that bad.

So that's just one (possibly two) fights in the past 2 years that can be classed as 'extremely hard'. Other than mental preperation, his body hasn't gone through anything that any other fighter hasn't experienced.

I don't think he needs a break, maybe an "easier" bout back in the UK after the Super 6. He's a young 33 year old in his prime, but I can't see him being around until he is 40. He is building up a very good legacy for himself at the moment, no need to stall and 'take a break'.

Froch took some cracking, flush right hands in this bout. He stood up to all of them, they didn't seem to phase him at all...and he came back with his own rallies almost immediately.

Froch has had tough fights since his domestic level days when he made tough fights out of easy opponents.
