    Yes he did take significantly less money. And if Showtime weren't interested, I'm sure another network would have picked it up. Could have been picked up cheap by a free network and Dawson would have got an even bigger boost to his profile from being seen by an audience that wouldn't normally see him. Plus he still could have fought Tarver in the same time frame, so loses nothing on that side.

    If Dawson had fought Diaconu and then Tarver rather than Tarver twice (because in this scenario he would be coming as another champion rather than a challenger, so would not need to agree any bs rematch clause) he would have been paid more, possibly have more exposure (or at least no less exposure) and have two titles rather than one.

    Calzaghe v Kessler was signed before any contract with HBO was signed.
