They didn't get approached. A couple of promoters negociated together with Showtime. Sauerland and Hennessy had 3 boxers from Europe, Dibella and had 3 fighters from USA. Bute was in between. They thought of a tournament involving 8 fighters, adn then, the name of Bute had been considered but as soon as they decided to have only 6 fighters, he was excluded.

At the time, Ward was 10th and Dirrell 11th of the division. Abraham was not even ranked in the SMW. The number 2, 4 and 6 were not invited in a tournament called super 6. The guys in it were not the 6 best SMW of the world.
