if joe was going to take a farewell fight then froch would be low down on the list. below dawson, johnson, hopkins II, kessler II, veit III and pudwill II.

    voice of reason?

froch is nothing but a title holder in the division below calzaghe. what the **** has he done to warrant a fight with calzaghe when there are legit contenders in joe's own division should he have decided to fight on?

It is not an insult to say that someone is "not Sugar Ray Leonard". Calzaghe was a great fighter and would have competed very well against any middleweight, Super Middleweight or light heavyweight in history. That should have been enough. He certainly didn't owe Froch a fight.

And retirement is never "ducking." There is no shame in it even if you do it because you think you can no longer beat the younger fighters, either because time has slowed your reflexes, or you can not longer do the training. Does every fighter have to fight until father time brings less talented fighters up to their level? Joey Archer beating SRR comes to mind. Imagine how Robinson would have toyed with Archer in his prime.

I don't see a very long reign for this guys, his top three challengers are all better them him, so even if he gets a voluntary defence and fights joe nobody he'll have to fight Andre Ward pretty soon. And then its good night sweet prince.
