Carl Froch has vowed to become the first man to knock out Mikkel Kessler when they meet for the Englishman's WBA super-middleweight crown on 24 April.

Nottingham's Froch, 32, will fight Kessler in the Danish town of Herning as part of the Super Six tournament.

"He hasn't got a chance against me," Froch told BBC Sport.

"It makes for a humdinger. Kessler is going to be knocked out for the first time in his career, unless he's a lot tougher than I already think he is."

Froch, who is unbeaten in 26 professional encounters, will be making the third defence of his world title against Kessler, who was outpointed by Wales' former world champion Joe Calzaghe in 2007.

Froch won his first fight in American network Showtime's Super Six tournament, beating American Andre Dirrell, and a victory over 31-year-old Kessler would go a long way towards assuring him a semi-final spot.

Kessler, who has two defeats from 44 professional fights and was beaten in his first Super Six encounter on a technical decision after suffering cuts against Andre Ward, would face an uphill task to qualify were he to lose to Froch.

Froch commented: "Kessler's a great fighter, don't get me wrong, he's got a lot of things going for him, a lot of experience and he's strong and tough and knows how to box.

"He's a proud warrior but he's not had the best preparation for fighting me - Kessler's coming in off the back of a warm-up fight and a bad loss - so all you can do is wish him lucky really.

"We might see the best of Kessler but it will be the best of the last of him because he'll get beaten on the night by the best in the world. "Early on he'll have a real strong go, he'll chuck everything at me, really have a fight but it won't be enough.

"I'm coming off the back of wins over Jean Pascal [who Froch beat in 2008 to claim the vacant WBA belt], who's now the WBC light-heavyweight champion of the world, and Jermain Taylor, who I pretty much finished off [Taylor was stopped by Germany's Arthur Abraham in his first Super Six fight and has since withdrawn from the tournament].

"Then I beat Andre Dirrell, who was the mandatory challenger for my belt. I've had three world-class, top-level performances on the spin and I'm going in against Kessler with that in the bank."

Froch added that he doubted Calzaghe would make a comeback, as has been touted in some sections of the media, despite the Welshman recently saying he was disillusioned by promotion and hitting out at Froch in an interview.

"Now Calzaghe is retired, he is scratching around thinking, 'what can I say about Carl Froch this week?'" stated Froch.

"He could be getting itchy feet but let's be honest, he's going to struggle to come back and if he does want to come back and fight me he needs to get in line.

"I've got Kessler, then Abraham, then I've got Ward or Dirrell again, a queue of people lining up to fight me.

"But he won't be back, he's finished and it's getting embarrassing for him now."

Not recently - Calzaghe has been saying rather a lot about the Cobra over the last few weeks.

Froch could very well knock out Kessler, but i doubt Kessler could knock out Froch..Kessler could win on points if he boxes, but i doubt he can..I can't wait for this fight, all out war!

Calzaghe has said a few things recently, but Froch always talks about Calzaghe - It's pointless.

    Has he??
Got any links to these comments?

Personally I can't ever see JC coming out of retirement, he's got money, he's undefeated.....why risk the reputation and his 0?? No point at all!!

I like Froch and I honestly do think he has a great chance of knocking Kessler out, but I think he will come up short against Abraham!!

WhY? Taylor, who doesn't have the same power as Kessler, was able to hurt him and knock him down, why is it hard to imagine a Kessler ko win?

How is that, when Kessler punches harder than Froch and has the same chin or probably better? If Froch takes bombs like Andrade did, then he aint staying on his feet.

eventhough im a dane and hoping for a kessler win, you just gotta love froch and his words of wisdom :yep

the amount of selfbelief he has is insane and his trashtalk oozes of it. When you mix his dry sense of humor, with his selfbelief, thats a combo i always find funny.

True. I've seen Froch hurt twice. I've yet to see Kessler hurt. You could argue level of competition there, but still, there isn't any evidence that Froch's chin is better than Kessler's.

Froch lost to Dirrell. It was a disgraceful hometown robbery and the revisionist history since then has been sickening to see.

Froch has balls and a massive heart, Kessler probably will win, but Froch will be there all the way.

Froch is trying to sell the fight and good luck to him. Boxings a short career most of the time, and I dont begrudge anyone who competes in the ring trying to make money.
Ive always been a fan of Calzaghes, but I cant help but admire Froch in the way hes taken his career. He has gone for the most prestigious world title (WBC), and is willing to travel to defend. In his last 4 fights 3 of the fighters were undefeated going in, admittedly one of them wasnt well known but in his last 3 fights hes beaten then undefeated now WBC LHW champ Pascal, made his 1st title defence away to Taylor who had only lost once in the SMW division on points to Pavlik (KOd by Pavlik at MW), then defended against undefeated mandatory Dirrell and is defending away again to Kessler.
Froch may not have looked impressive against Dirrell, but Dirrell didnt look impressive either and was more negative than id seen him before. Boxing News and The Ring magazine had Froch a close winner against Dirrell, so hardly a robbery, just a close fight where people have different interpretations.
Just a point, in Calzaghes 1st 4 world title fights (WBO)and Frochs 1st 4 world title fights (WBC) overall Froch has fought at a higher level and been willing to defend away

    Calzaghe ------------ Froch
    1. Eubank ------------1. Pascal
    2. Sobot --------------2. Taylor
    3. Ferreyra ------------3. Dirrell
    4. Reid ---------------4. Kessler (next)

With Eubank and Reid Calzaghes 1st 4 title fights arent bad but overall I think Frochs 1st 4 are better, this isnt to say Froch will have a better career overall, but just a point.
Wheather you like Froch or not, he does deserve credit, for how hes taken his career
