Froch signs with Matchroom

I hope it just gets him a much bigger profile. British boxers that haven't achieved half as much have been twice as popular, even guys that never won above Euro level, thanks to better promotion.

Yep good news for Froch, about time the best boxer in britain and best super middle in the world gets the recognition he deserves.

 

This probably plays a massive part in him getting on Sky. After the Khan fiasco, Sky probably didn't want any more "self promoted" fighters on their platform who are unable to provide a decent undercard. Haye obviously the exception.

 

Theres been loads of rumours about Frank Maloney retiring and selling his stable on. He mentioned he hasnt been making a profit recently.

All promoters deals with Sky are up in a years time expect for Prizefighter via Matchroom which is June 2013 (This was in Boxing Monthly).

Maybe we see Sky go exclusive for Boxing with Matchroom to provide at least 30 Saturday fight nights a year etc. They have the simular deal with them for Darts, Snooker, Poker. Then everyone else has to scrap for whats leftover and Sky pick up on the best from any other promoter and the US.

Matchroom would have the cash injection to win purse bids until the majority of fighters are signed to them. It would make it like the UFC. One company and TV Network dominating the sport in the UK.

 

30 Saturdays a year exclusively with Matchroom is completely unrealistic. They'd need about 150 fighters. The margins are just too small for the 90% of shows that are not Carl Froch in a Super 6 tournament. How many empty seats were at the Barker fight?

 

Interesting idea but I think a Warren v Matchroom situation would be better. Imagine if you split the Hatton and Maloneys stables between the two current stables of each promotion.

There would be competition to put on good events with top quality fighters every week. Both with the funds and capability to do it.

2 is competition enough to keep them both honest and competitive matchups but not to many that might hinder potential matchups being made with numerous promotional companies.

 

this was allways likely to happen what with the cobra telling buncey that he had just had a nice chat with eddie regarding matchroom on bunceys show last week, then straight after froch hung up eddie was on the air.....

It's good news for everyone this... I just wish it had happened 3 years ago.

 

Yeah, I've heard those - but the poster ''FTM Press'' on Boxrec denied those along with the partnership with the Hatton's that Gareth Williams spoke about some time ago.

I can definitely see it happening though, he's been criticised several times by Sky for the poor standard of opponent that he's been bringing in.... we've also seen far more poor Commonwealth title opponents for his lads and also domestic level Europeans for European title fights (if you get me) which won't go down to well I wouldn't imagine.

Personally I wouldn't mind a three way battle between them, the Hatton's and also Warren for boxing over here - there's plenty of talent to go around and also plenty of fights that can be made internally as every promoter in both the States and Germany tend to do.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that people will watch boxing if you put on a good quality product.... too many shows in recent years have been a crap/disinteresting main event backed up by a wank undercard full of predictable fights :zzz

Give me a good quality, close to even main event and chief support, and I won't mind the odd mismatch, but when there's too many it's frustrating and turns people off the sport.

Really hope nothing comes of this court case. It's interesting to hear that Froch claims he never had a contract with Hennessy, which seems unlikely.

However Hennessy relied on a gentlemans agreement with Sauerland for the location of the Kessler fight, so perhaps that is how he does business.

Maloney is close with Matchroom.

I no its been denied but there no smoke without fire. McDonnell, Hall Price, Jeffries if there on long term deals would be valuable.

 

His British title opponents have also been poor.

 

I don't think it is. If you have domestic belt holders fighting 4x a year its not a problem at all. Even at 3x a year you only need 10 boxers signed up and the opponents will come as its the only place with cash.
