I wasn't trying to be abnoxious...but I think with THAT defence, Kessler would have a field day and Joe would pot shot him and dodge his bombs all night...AND they both have great chins, particularly Joe...who also knows many tricks that would negate Froch's chances, on the inside... ...as it has been said before...let's see Froch against a better World Class fighter...say a Top 10...and then we'll see whether Froch can make those one-punch KO shots count, because he's not going to outpoint many top fighters... :good
This fight was a waste of time. Froch hasn't done anything new here. The thing that pisses me off about Froch is that left hand. Alright, I don't mind a little bit of arrogance in the ring but he could be so much more effective if he punched with the left jab instead of wafting it in the general direction of his opponents face from his thigh. I can't see Froch being anything more than a top 6-10 fighter at SMW. That knee seriously cramps him, and to be hit with those wild, roundhouse right hands from Reid was just embarrasing. Reid is completely done, he's lost all his fight. Time to retire Robin. By the way... it's obnoxious.
According to BBC Sports website today, Reid has confirmed his retirement following his loss to Froch. Also says he hopes to remain involved in the sport in a coaching capacity.
I hope he stays retired too... there's no way he should be allowed in a ring anymore in a fighting capacity. He's had a good career and has been the WBC champ, pushed Calzaghe all the way and got robbed against Ottke.
Reid was well past it. he announced his retirement on thr BBC this morning. Froch is a loudmouth who has never faced anyone decent. Calzaghe would school him worse than Lacy! low hands and a big mouth. thats all froch has
I thought Froch had already retired:huh Having beaten the excellent Tatevosyan, Froch sensibly decided to quit while he was still ahead. How nice of him though to say goodbye to his fans and thank them by taking a farewell fight on the seniors' circuit against shot Reid! :yep
I am surprised that CHJ hasn't replied by saying Reid retired only to spare Froch further embarrassment...
Froch, now 22-0 (18), said: It was a great performance from me, especially after the operation to my knee had kept me out of action since March (eight months). It was the rust-shredder I needed. Reid is a class act, a great fighter but I did what I had to do, continued Carl, making the fourth defence of the Lonsdale belt he won outright at this venue twelve months ago. I'm under no illusions about how good Reid is these days he was past his best. But he still can take a great punch and came to give Carl Froch a fight, a run-for-his-money. It's now time for me to make my mark on the world stage in 2008. I will be a world champion by this time next year. I utterly destroyed Sergey Tatevosyan, who Lucian Bute had to go the distance with two months earlier, in March. So the statistics say it all. Lucian Bute maybe the IBF champion but is not a massive puncher and has not been hit by someone like me yet, said the Rob McCracken-trained fighter. But Froch wants a certain Welsh portsider next year: I've been a big Joe Calzaghe fan over the years but have not been impressed by the way he doesn't want to fight me. I think Calzaghe should fight me really. He has had a couple of soft defences rather than fighting me and I've got the hump with him over it. I would be a more dangerous fight than Bernard Hopkins, which he is talking about for his next fight. OK, Kessler was a good win and Joe put on a good performance, but he says he wants only big fights now and fighting me would be just that. There would be huge interest in Britain for it. I'll keep calling for Calzaghe until takes notice and sees sense in fighting me. His greatest danger is not in America against a 42-year-old man but in Great Britain, Nottingham to be precise. Welsh dragon Calzaghe be warned: the English cobra wants to spit his deadly and potent venom in your direction. http://www.britishboxing.net/news_2853-Froch-keeps-his-word-and-smokes-Reid-s-boots.html
Pointless fight from the day it was announced. Reid was always going to lose, and the win does nothing for Froch's career other than delay the day of reckoning even longer. Froch is 30(I think) and NEEDS TO GET A BLOODY MOVE ON!!! I'm a big Froch supporter, but this was a waste of time. Reid basically knew he wasn't going to win and gave up. I don't buy the shoulder 'injury' story one bit. It's an old trick when a fighter wants out
