Let me give you my opinion on Ward's championship fights, in term of entertainment:

Kessler- Good display of boxing and generalship, but very dirty and ugly.. NOT the type of fight you want to see..

Green- Basicly a hug fest, Ward never showed any intentions of REALLY hurting or stopping green.. Very boring fight.

Bika- Old school and very rough, wasn't clean at all.. But pretty fun to watch imo, atleast if you like old school "rough" boxing.

Abraham- Ward lost 1 or 2 early rounds, but otherwise he was just cruising.. Entertaining? Well, i wouldn't call it "boring", but it wasn't really interesting, not worth rewatching, but Ward did what he had to, can't blame him for that.

Froch- Complete clinic, Ward was faster, smarter and far better technically, he outboxed and out-roughed Froch in a very good fight.. Pretty entertaining fight, atleast it was/is worth watching.

To be fair, I really didn't think Ward fought that dirty for the first half of the fight. . I thought it was pretty much a briliiant display of pugilism. Not much holding. . Pretty high punch output. . Fighting off the back foot with jabs, 1-2's, 1-2-hooks, 1-2-hook-2's, etc. . . Whether or not that headbutt was intentional, I don't know. . . But even without the butt, I think it was by far his best performance; regarding skills, and aesthetic viewing pleasure for sure. . .

Green fight was boring, but Ward showed he was a master inside boxer here. .

Bika was decent rough boxing like you said - not really my type of fight, though.

Abarham I agree. . He just "did what he had to do" to win. .

Froch fight was probably his worst display of "holding", especially in the championship rounds when Froch was coming on strong... I also thought he got hit the most cleanly he's ever been hit. . . But still a clinic.

Ward being an olympic champion and undefeated should be a genuine star but his style means he will never be a crossover star.

I also think that Kessler was hitting Ward more often than most peopel remember for the first half of the fight, but Ward was just landing more punches, and cleaner punches. . But Kessler snapped his head back a few times, and was landing effectively with his straight right. . .

I see you're a pretty big Kessler fan? Me too. . Off topic real quick, how do you feel about him at 175? And a possible fight vs. Cloud?

it's ironic considering how long it took froch to get a tv deal. ffs he's only been on sky twice. the way froch talks you'd think he was ricky hatton with his mainstream following.

That doesn't mean he shouldn't have a following liek Hatton, and he shouldn't have been on sky, and other mainstream boxing networks much earlier. . . He was England's most under-appreciated fighter for a long time. . .

I agree, he does talk a lot of smack, but if you notice, he also subtly gives a lot of boxers props. . .

I had to fire him up a little bit for talking about Bute, and how he was going to do this, and do that. . But what's he supposed to say? I know Bute hits harder than me, and is twice as fast? LOL. . .

Froch also has one of the top 3 hottest broads in boxing. . He done gave that sexy ass female a baby too! marked his territory for life! I thought it was funny that Ward's trainer, Virgil Hill said "you gotta respect a man with a beautiful woman like that"!

Not having A class power is the main boring factor. With Ward, you know 2 things in advance: he'll win on points... until he faces Bute. :D

To be fair, Ward held in the last rounds because he had an injured hand. That's what slowed him in that fight. Against Froch, not being powerful is a thing, not being able to hit at your max is another.

Are you comparing Bute to Mr Mini-Wheats?

I agree completely with you, Bute is a nice mix of skills and excitement: he has become a real boxer-puncher.

In the UK, we've got a loaf of bread that is marketed as "best of both". Apparently it tastes of white bread but has the "goodness" of brown.

    Must be horrible stuff.
