"After all, Calzaghe ducked fighting me for years so it won’t come as any surprise to hear him say that Taylor will beat me. The fact is that he vacated his world title rather than fight me and everyone knows that. It would have been the fight the British public wanted but, after years of fighting bums of the month in his very own comfort zone of Cardiff, the fact that he decided to call it quits tells its own story. Unlike him, I’m not interested in defending my title for the next five years against nobody fighters."

While some of that might be true, Calzaghe would still smash Carl.

The post above has got it spot on. Carl is the only person within professional boxing who tells Calzaghes record like the rest of us see it (packed full of B and C level fights), however in the few fights during his career that mattered (Lacy, Kessler and Hop) he showed that he is a genuine top level talent and would have too much for Carl IMO.

It's not possible to duck Froch. He'd have to constitute a threat to be duckable. I'm sure Carl must have his tongue firmly in his cheek.

    Musn't he....?

He 'ducked' Froch to fight Hopkins.

That's the bottom line. Froch is fighting the best outside of his comfort zone, and the man deserves respect for that above anything else.

If you break the post down.......

Calzaghe ducked fighting Froch for years - FALSE
Won't come as surprise JC picking Taylor - TRUE
Vacated title rather than fight Froch - TECHNICALLY, BUT FOUGHT HOPKINS INSTEAD
    Everyone knows that - FALSE
Fight that British public wanted - FALSE, HARDLY ANYONE CARED
Bums of the month - PARTLY TRUE
    In Cardiff - PARTLY TRUE
Calling it quits tells it's own story - FALSE, THE GUY HAD HAD ENOUGH

On his last remark, I would be very surprised if Froch actually has the title in five years, but good luck to him.

The one thing I do agree with Froch on is that Calzaghe's level of opposition isn't all that. Between beating Eubank and winning the title from Lacy, he only faced 2 decent fighters, Reid and Woodhall. The rest were either rubbish or well past their best.

Plainly, he's still trying to needle Joe into a comeback.

Carl Froch has a disturbing obsession with Joe Calzaghe.

Normally he is pretty accurate with what he says, but thats a load of ****, he almost sounds like Mundine. Though he is right about Calzaghe being happy to fight poor opposition for most of his title reign.

Calzaghe's feather hands never smashed anyone. I agree he would likely beat Froch out on points though.

why won't froch **** talk about someone who's currently fighting and in his division. Calzaghe won't come back for him unless he cleans out the division pretty quickly, which IMO won't happen. he'd be better off chasing Kessler or Bute, that is if he beats Taylor. Obsessing about Calz will only make people think that he has some strange stalker type problem and he comes over as a total wierdo to the casual fans even tho some of his comments on calzaghe's opposition is true. He wouldn't beat calzaghe anyway so you'd think he'd be pleased to get the title without having to fight him, unless he just wants a big payday that is. Gotta respect how he chases big fights tho.

Calzaghe took the title from a legend in Eubank. Sure he beat many nonbodies, but also a good share of pretty good fightgers. Lacy was supposed to be too young and strong and expose him and we lla saw what happened next. Then he was accused of ducking Kessler and while Kessler was game, Joe beat him while being probably slightly past his prime. Then he vacated the title to fight Hopkins, the one fighter nobody ever looks good against, a legend who is infinitely more accomplished than Froch and, as the Pavlik fight showed, was not shot.

Calzaghe had a great career. Could it have been greater? Yes, but show me a fighter about whom that could not be said.
