I'm not sure which parts of this post are a **** take and which (if any) are serious. However, no need to talk them up, both were world champs and legitimate top ten fighters. Two good wins on the resume right there. Not exceptional to be sure, but good nonetheless.
Brewer and Mitchell we belt holders for a short period of time, I think its a bit of strech to call them "world champs".

They were good wins, nothing more. As you say, certainly not excpetional.

Also look at the level of opposition Calzaghe fought in and around Brewer and Mitchell.....we have Pudwill....Mkrtchian...Jiminez....Mcintyre....:nut

For someone as highly regarded as Calzaghe now is, his resume is somewhat pathetic.

I don't think it's a stretch whatsoever. They were the former IBF and WBA champions of the world. Simple as.

I'm sure no right minded fan thinks Calzaghe's wins over those guys you name meant anything. I agree, some of the praise he gets is too high (i.e. people calling him an ATG, which in my view is a term which is used far too freely). However, you can't blame the fighter for that. And rather than being founded on those fights above, his resume is founded on the wins over Eubank, Reid, Woodhall, Sheika, Brewer, Mitchell, Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins and maye even Jones and Starie, the top ten fighters he fought and beat. It's not the resume of an ATG but it's not too shabby a list of wins either, especially when you consider you've got fighters talked about as potential ATGs for not much more if at all (Marquez for one)

I think most people now accept that there is a big difference between a belt holder and a World Champion. Brewer and Mitchell were belt holders, not World Champions, IMO.

they smashed plenty of people my friend dont worry about that... he had only been the distance once before eubank, and dropped him with a heavy heavy haymaker in the first. after that came the combos and the slapping, gave up his power for skill. not to mention the trouble with his hands.

and i really is disturbing how Froch and Witter genuinely believe Calzaghe and Hatton ducked them.

Froch is tailor made for Calzaghe. Easy UD for Joe C, probably 118-110, something like that, in an entertaining fight nonetheless.

But fiar play to Froch, he is indeed taking a big risk by going over their to fight Jermain Taylor, and doesn't see himself as 'the opponent'.

If he can pull it off he will get no credit for it (Taylor was shot; Taylor was never that good etc etc) from the same people who are predicting now that Taylor will smash him, but fair play.

Shame Calzaghe didn't get these oppurtunities earlier on in his career, but I actually think he was quite lucky, as even if he'd gone over to the States and fougth the likes of Jones/Johnson etc etc he wouldn't have stopped them and would've been hard pressed to win a decision over there (something Froch might have to learn about come fight night) and would never have been able to build up the importance of his '0' even though h might have a better resume for it and be given much more respect, as he had the talent to mix in those circles, no doubt.

Froch is trying to do the right thing, and win or lose he deserves our respect. He's going over their to KTaylorTFO and even if he fails, fair play to Frochy :good

I'm going to support Carl this saturday but he's putting me off him with this crap. He's never been near Calzaghe's league. And saying Calzaghe ducked him to fight Hopkins is just insane.

Froch just can't let this Calzaghe thing go and he is making himself look a complete and utter **** in the process.

    War Taylor!

Well if you're going to do that then then you're basically saying that who is a champion and who isn't is completely a matter of personal judgement. Hence removing about the only objective measure of success in the sport. Your view fair enough, but I think there are big problems with this perspective.

froch is right but he's wrong too.

froch clearly has respect for his career because otherwise he'd never have taken a fight against taylor is dangerous for anyone.

    but calzaghe didn't 'duck' froch.

like i've been saying the whole time i've been on the board, if you want a shot at the big cheese you EARN it and make waves where it counts.

froch calling out calzaghe since he hit the limelight in the US is exactly the same as witter calling out hatton after hatton made his mark in the US.

if you make the moves you put yourself on a bigger playing field. froch is just being bitter that he never got to fight calzaghe.

Froch needs to move on. Yes Calzaghe didn't fancy the fight. Get over it! He's not the first fighter to duck someone and he won't be the last.

Froch needs to **** the fcuk up about Calzaghe! Does Carl not realise in talking about Calzaghe, he's talking about a guy who's now retired from Boxing?

Saying Joe defended his title against is plainly disrespectful. Calzaghe was asked to give his view on Froch-Taylor & instead of trying to mock or criticise Froch, he actually gave him a bit of credit. That shows class!

Froch needs to concentrate on his own career, rather than focusing more on a guy who's no longer competing! Froch has not achieved anything near what Joe did. Froch is 31, older than Jermain Taylor, & apart from winning the WBC title last time out, what has he done of any great significence?

I'm a fan or Froch, but he needs to sieze the moment. If he loses to Taylor then where does he go from there? At 31, its not as if he has time on his side!

He's lined himself up for a BIG fall with his continuous obsession with Calzaghe

If he drops a decision on Saturday, the Calzaghe stuff will become even more laughable

dont you think froch deserves respect for taking this fight especially considering that taylor is arguably better now than any fighter calzaghe fought in his prime?

Whilst I don't agree that he is better than any of Calzaghe's prime opponents, I do give Froch credit for going to the States. I admire any risk taking in the sport

Nevertheless, he'll still cop it in the neck
