I only watched the last 4 rounds last night but by sounds of the RbR and the scorecards, it was the same for the previous 8 rounds. So after seeing all that, I really think a fully motivated and fully fit Carl Froch would give Joe Calzaghe a serious run for his money.
Both were fantastic, punch perfect performances. Calzaghe sickened Lacy for 12 one sided rounds. Froch had the perfect gameplan against Abraham and never let him in the fight while delivering very good work himself. Superb performance. Hard to compare the two - apart from that both fights made me proud to be British. That's all that matters really.
I think the fact that Froch has not been marketed in the same way as Joe was has a lot to to do with how people see and judge each fighter. A lot more people got to see Joe fighting but froch has not hed that publicity. Just for the record I had froch down to be beaten so i got it wrong, he boxed a clever fight and looked great doing it.
Cant really compare the two but both are up there with the best performance by a brit in a world title fight. Froch battered Abraham by doing nothing spectacular on the eye, but keeping him at bay with a great jab and using his superior reach to his advantage with a perfect gameplan implemented. Calzaghe battered Lacy with an array of spectacular skill and using the full arsenal while throwing over a 1000 punches. Calzaghe was the better performance for me, as you could never tire of watching it. But they were both great :good
Both were very one sided fights and were underdogs going in. Lacy was smashing people and was a true supermiddle weight..whereas AA was a top 2 middleweight with no real accomplishments at 168. Like someone said they were both one dimensional bangers. When AA gets schooled by ward and never wins another significant fight will he go down as a lacy? who was "never good in the first place".
Different sorts of performances. Calzaghe hammered a guy expected to blow him away using his usual style..... whereas Froch shut out an opponent who was tipped to wear him down and force a stoppage using a completely different method to what he usually does. Given that I think Calzaghe's win over Kessler is more impressive all things considered, I'd go for Froch in the Lacy/Abraham performance debate. Still, it's only splitting hairs.
Personally I think the key difference is Lacy was unbeaten and demolishing everyone. Whereas Abraham had already been exposed for what he was by Andre Dirrell. Dirrell laid out the perfect blueprint for beating Abraham and this is the reason why Froch chose to box last night rather than fight his normal style. Dirrell should be given the credit for exposing Abraham not Froch even though it was a great win for him. Calzaghe on the other hand absolutly ruined Lacy.
Both were fantastic performances that really made an impression on me. Cazlaghe vs Lacy was a mainstream fight so it caught the whole country's attention, whereas Frochs performance could only be appreciated by the lucky few who know enough to watch him. A crying shame.
