ITV, Eurosport and ESPN didn't pick it up because they weren't willing to pay Hennessy's asking price. I think you have the process the wrong way round.

    And Sky Sports isn't free....

I know but I wouldn't mind paying a set subscription if they promised to show the bigger boxing fights. I paid for Setanta.

The fact you have to subscribe to sky sports then buy a PPV.....gah.....:-(

    Not for me.

Where do you get that from? Nobody picked up the Froch fight against Taylor.

It's the fact that boxing has been heavily pushed into the PPV realm that's dwindled it's popularity so much! It's no coincendence that when Eubank/Benn were around and boxing was free it was more popular and they made more money.

Boxing was way way way more popular when it was on free to air TV. You've only got to look at how little the average person knows about the sport to see that

The part I was questioning was the part I bolded. Fairly obviously.

Eubank, bruno, Benn, Collins, McGuigan all made more than Calzaghe did his whole career. Calzaghe only got a couple of mill for his biggest fights and that's because he went sky early on and no one knew of him - or the talent he was.

Calzaghe made $10 million from the Jones fight.

I take you have links for the stellar career earnings of Eubank, Benn, Collins and McGuigan?

Actually I've found one for Benn:

    http://www.boxing-monthly.co.uk/content/0702/two.htm

10 million isn't much more than what Calzaghe made from his last two fights alone....

That's American dollars not UK pounds so Calzaghe made roughly £5,000,000 (at most!!) and that's not including the highly restrictive taxes the US imposes on sporting profits.

Add to that fact the value of money doubles every 10 years and that the Benn fight was 13 years prior then you can safely say in today's money Benn would have made an equivilant pay of £1.6 million in today's money. £1.6 so Calzaghe only made £3.4 million more for just that one fight at the tail end of his career against a US money backed legend

Now factor in the fact Warren ****ed him over over the Hopkins bout and dissolved sports network rather than pay him. now factor in Joe's next biggest fight vs Kessler for which he probably got a million tops.

Every fight prior to that was for peanuts because he was too greedy to get mainstream exposure.

Now look at Benn. As you pointed out in just that one fight he earnt £1.6 million in today's money. Now add the Eubank fights and the collins fight as well as all the other trivial fights. NOW add all the sponsoship he got ththat Calzaghe never got because of his exposure.

See. Using your own figures my case is proven. PPV means limited exposure. Only media backed behemoths like Khan/Hatton get the kind of exposure only mainstream TV could provide.

You honestly believe Calzaghe made shitloads fighting Reid & Veit? Honestly!?!?!?!?!

And what? You don't think Money depreciates every 10 years? What I said isn't a fact!?! ARE YOU SURE!?!?!
Why the **** do you think houses cost hundreds of thousands now and just tens of thousands 10/20 years ago? What you think the financial fairies just flew in and waved their magic price raising wands? It's called inflation you moron and here's a link because you're clearly still doing your GSCEs!
