No thanks, I will not be subscribing to your channel out of principal. I can do without watching the Super 6 and I would like to see your commitment to boxing before I put ANY money your way. My guess is you will be more flash in the pan than Setanta. I HATE all of this PPV nonsense with a passion and it just pushing boxing further and further out of the mainstream. I'll pay for a PPV if it PPV standard, but whilst I like the idea of the Super 6 many of the fighters are not big names in the UK and your average fan will not continue to pay through the nose for this.
U do not need to be on free tv to be a star. Calzaghe wasnt a star not because he wasnt on terrestrial tv but for the simple fact he wasnt great to watch and secondly he doesnt have the most charisma in world. Nigel Benn would of been a star with or without free tv. He was a guy people wanted to watch fight. Eubank was another guy who would of been a star as he got people to care about him. People hated him but they would pay to watch him hoping he would lose. Naseem Hamed wasnt built on free tv and that guy made a ton of money. He was a featherweight and made more than most fighters from the UK do. Why? Because Nas was a character and was entertaining to watch. Calzaghe retired undefeated and was a world champion for over 10 years. However he wasnt a star. As for the Froch fight. This will be a flop. PPV's dont sell themeselves. You need to market the damn thing and let people know its on. With only a few days left before the fight I'm wondering where the marketing and advertising is from primetime. Do they think people will just magically find this and pay to watch this fight? Not going to happen!!
There will be plenty of streams available, don't pay for this money-grubbing nonsense. How offensive is it.. instead of straight-up promoting it they create usernames to sell the fight? :/
which is probably why setanta went bust? people are complaining boxing isn't going to be shown on the television and then complain when a company puts it's money on the line to show it to us. Alright fair enough it should be on sky sports as part of our packages, we all know this but the FACT of the matter is, it isn't going to be. It's there now to be watched and I will be paying as I want to see the fights and appreciate the fact the company are taking a risk especially after setanta went bust. We will get to watch 2 top fights for 12.99 if I understand correctly. to the poster above, telling people not to pay for the fights isn't helping anyone. That said.. the t.v link on there site doesn't appear to be working?
This whole deal reminds me of when setanta first started. They would run these one off PPV's which nobody gave a damn about or nobody knew about and it failed. The reason Setanta went bust after they launched a proper channel was simply because they spent far to much money on sports rights which people didnt really care about. i.e. paying way over the odds for FA Cup and England games. Primetime's formula is bound to fail for the simple reason that they are not really offering a reason to buy this PPV? If you didnt go on internet boxing forums would you even know this fight was on a ppv channel called Primetime? I have not seen one advert so how the hell do they aim to sell this PPV? As soon as this deal was announced I thought it would fail. 3 weeks is not enough time to make people buy into a fight between froch and an american people wouldnt of heard of. This tournament was announced months ago and its a failure on Froch's management that they havent 1 got a tv deal and 2 made people more aware of this fight. I got people at work who watched and loved the Pascal fight. Do they know froch is fighting this weekend? No they dont.
yea I know what you are saying. i don't agree with paying for it any more than anyone else but I am thankfull I have the option to do so, obviously i'd be more thankfull for it to be free. The thing is ppv is the way boxing is heading, everyone wants to be on ppv. Itv wouldn't even show the froch vs taylor fight which could have been built up so well in a England vs america way, sure it was on late but people would have watched it, if it was built up properly. Carl would then have a bigger following and the fight on saturday could have been shown too. As it is though we just have to accept (for now) that we are going to have to pay to watch fights. The good thing about the primetime show is that we get to watch two really good competative fights for the price of your normal one main event ppv. sorry bit of a ramble. It's almost a lose/lose situation because if people refuse to pay for the ppv fights on ppv, companys like itv and sky sports will see that as boxing having a small fan base and never attempt to pay for big fights. on the other hand people pay 12.99 on ppv and get ripped off, sales do well and continue to be shown on ppv.
Oh I can see the reasons why fighters would want to be on PPV. With good ppv sales you can make great money but the problem with froch is he doesnt really have a following which will generate some major numbers. I feel for the guy as he deserves a tv deal but he really needs new management. Those guys have let him down. Haye v Valuev is no more a PPV fight than the Froch fight but that fight will still do good number. Sky will push it and build it up as a true david v goalith fight. Haye will be all over SSN and other things and people will know about this fight.
this primetime thing should have been sorted out a long long time ago. It's a bit of a **** take really when one of the big name u.k fighters is (now) getting big fights and people don't even know about them. I remember being little and hearing about eubank fights well in advance then when they came around we would sit down as a family and watch him fight. If I didn't come on the forum I wouldn't have hurd about this once, pretty sure my friends who don't like boxing won't even know about carl froch nevermind the tournement.
Thats the problem mate. This super 6 thing is one of the best things to happen in boxing in a long time but the UK element has had no coverage at all. Froch won the title in a great fight. He then wins hist first defence in the US in a dramatic exciting fashion but is no real bigger now than he was before the Pascal fight. Sky must of been interested in Froch just whatever Hennesey wanted they wasnt going to pay. For Froch's sake I really hope the primetime thing does some good numbers. It will give him some leverage in any future tv deal.
I've just bought it. I agree with all the 'it shouldn't be on PPV' stuff but the bottom line is I love watching Carl Froch. I'd have actually gone to Nottingham and watched it if I didn't have other commitments. As such even though its £15 I'm looking at it from the point of what I'm getting for my money rather than the fact I shouldn't have to pay for it. After all for Froch Dirrell AND Taylor Abraham I'm actually getting a better deal than when I watch Hatton on PPV or Khan. Sadly boxing IS a minority sport and as such you don't get the easy easy you must watch it approach that football has, therefore if you have to find other ways then other ways you must find. After all, PPV is better than trying to watch England away on your PC!
Hmm after a day to reflect I think I might pay it. ChrisC is right and at least Primetime are putting it on. Thing is i don't fancy staying up to 2am (hardcore fan I know ;-)) but might be able to if the Abraham Taylor fight is on earlier. Anyone know what times that on? p.s Taylor is 6.5 to win on points and Froch 3.25 by knockout. Longer odds than I'd have thought!!
