Groves was far from reckless, he was passive for most of the fight, trying to conserve energy and not over commit. He was backing/turning away from the left hand that froch measured him with, and then tried to counter him with his own left, funny thing is that the quick slick Groves wasn't quick enough.
A lot of good points made GG is still relatively green and he's already shown world class attributes. He will be champ if he recovers from the KO. Froch needs to retire while he still has his health, it's not normal the amount of power shots the guy takes , he's a millionaire and has a good legacy why fight on?
Groves would of normally evaded the shot but since his back was on the ropes he was there for the taking. He fought the wrong fight IMO
It was a small ring as well which didn't help Groves. Was at the fight, had Groves 4-3 up entering the 8th, had him winning the 8th round before Froch nailed him with that pearler of a right hand. Haven't yet watched the fight back on TV but I hear Jim Watt put on a masterful performance of pure bull**** commentary & scoring. Great how Froch set the right hand up though. Groves went back to towards the ropes, he feinted the left hand seen Groves pull his right hand up but left his left hand down, then threw the left hand has a smoke screen knowing Groves would do exactly the same again and then rifled the right hand through. Great shot. Groves in these 2 fights though has shown to me that he is a world class fighter. Bags of talent and potential, he'll definitely come again and be a world champion in the very near future.
To say George deserves less credit for that first fight is a bit ridiculous to be fair. I’d agree that he might have been over rated a bit but at the end of the day he gave Froch his toughest fight in a long time and hurt him worse than anyone else has to date. George showed some real skills in both fights and in all honesty he showed he has the ability to beat Carl, just not the experience and ring savvy. Its an easy excuse to say Carl was unprepared, to a degree I’d say he mentally was as it seemed he had no respect for Groves power, but you can’t put the whole fight down to that, he looked outclassed at times. Carl got caught by a punch the same as George did, they both deserve credit for those punches, you can make excuses all day, Froch was wreck less, George made a split second mistake etc. People should admit George was a valid opponent and threat to Froch rather than now say George had no place in the ring with him. It’s one extreme to another! edit - this post looks a bit pro Groves so just to make it clear I am a fan of both fighters, Froch did an amazing job and deserves massive credit, but that doesn't mean Groves should be put on the scrap heap.
