I was at the fight and had Groves up 4-3 going into the 8, watched it back had froch up 4-3 with Groves winning the 8th until till the stoppage!
From the stadium me and my four mates all had it 4-3 Froch, with Groves winning the 8th until 'that' punch
I feel close rounds can be swayed by who you want to win even if your trying to be fair you concentrate on your fighters work. But I felt froch took centre ring controlled the pace of the fight forced the attacks. Worked well to the body which goes unotice. Both fighters jabs were very goo. Groves for me was too cautious and waiting a little too long. Also I dont know if its a ploy from carl but I know alot of boxers especially in the old days of 15 championship rounds ( I heard a interveiw with chavez snr saying he did it) used to purposely punch the arms and shoulders of there opponent and I noticed carl do this a couple of times and at the time I remember thinking thats good tatics against groves. It zaps energy and takes alot of sting out the opponents shots not olny that but by the later rounds feels like your arms are heavy leaving the opponent to drop his hands more. Might not be pretty to watch but if its effective. By the way I think the chavez interview he was mainly refaring to the meldrick taylor fight
I think if your judging it on the cleanest punches landed...the fight should have been groves up on points 4-3 otherwise 4-3 to carl. He landed the eye catching punches (apart from the last one lol). He landed something like 30 punches more if the stats are to be believed. The thing is with froch what we've learned is although his punches dont seem as eye catching...they hurt more. But should that be taking into account as a judge scoring a fight?? How do you judge which punches hurt or not when it's very hard to tell. Judging is too subjective...and it causes a lot of problems i genuinely think it's time to look at changing how a fight is scored and make it universal as opposed to what a judge likes to see best...you've got mayweather going out their to just knick rounds a lot of the time. And it's worked for him and a lot of others. It's become too tactical the 10-9 approach. Cant we get a system where the winner is the one who kicked the other guys ass?? Not quite as simple as that but you get my point. you could fight 7 rounds just knicking rounds by the odd punch...get the life beat out you for the other five and come away with the win. It's a flaw in the system for me, i think they should make clear what takes predecence weather it's most and cleanest punches landed or ring generalship or whatever and work from there. But saturday night...if the last 4 rounds played out like the first 8, groves should have won the fight with cleaner and more punches landed which he definetely did to round 8...froch had great body shots...but were they cleaner than george's left and right hands...they were probably more hurtful anyway...but how do you judge hurtful punches?? When they dont appear to be. However to me and i m a groves fan...froch controlled the fight, he took solid shots but overall he was winning the fight up to the stoppage however i would have had george up on the cards...sounds like a contradiction. Can anyone remind me what the judges criteria is...i know it's ring generalship and obviously punches landed <<< a better term for that...but what takes predecint?? Is there anything that does (i think it's personal preference if i mind correctly) or is it just judged on 5 or 6 different things as a whole and neither take predicence. Saturdays fight was hard to score...either way neither was running away with the fight. If the fight finished the way it had been up to the eigth...i think we would have been seeing a rematch...and whoever the loser was would have said they were robbed...happy it was conclusive in the end. As i said i m a groves fan but find it hard to believe that anyone had carl up by 4 or 5 points...but i can see the case of george being up by that margin...even though i believe carl controlled the centre of the ring/ring generalship etc can i ask them they must have gave precidence to ring generalship over the cleaner, more landed punches?? To make it clear outside of scorecards...i had carl winning the fight, it definetely went his way...but using 10-9 system had george by the one point because of the cleaner punches and more of them...to me it's hard to make the winner the guy that controlled how the fight was going when he took 30 punches more and cleaner punches at that Hope that doesn't come across as bias...either way...forgetting the great punch landed by carl and the mistake made by george which it was...he was never holding carl off all night with what he was doing...the stoppage was going to come it was ineveitable in my eyes anyway....carl was about to turn up the heat...and george didn't discourage him enough that he did in the first fight from coming forward to stop it happening. And thats not the position you want to be in against carl froch. Not had a second viewing of the fight though. I would also like to see the kevinmitchell score cards because up until the other guy fell apart...or kevin to his credit made him fall apart there was no way he was winning that fight. I suspect we had it two judges had it to mitchell or had it very close, earlier than the guy fell apart and one for the opponent...it's a bit of a recurring theme in matchroom scorecards.
They both threw over 300 punches, Froch slightly more. Froch landed 28% of his. Groves landed 40% of his.
Had groves 4-2 up with the 1st round draw. Cleaner punches, more landed, one can have aggression all day along, if nothing landed cannot win the round.
Watch it today on sky catch-up Im sober. Had it 5-2 Groves. Am a froch fan first but i do like groves aswell. Anyway for me Groves landed the cleaner shots and boxed well on the back foot.
This is a statement I agree with some boxers box better on the outside and want to be there but with this fight I think both boxers wanted centre ring and was trying to be there so with carl getting there I feel he gained control
Are you on medication? I often see like 4 or 5 post replying to yourself. Its just my opinion I may be wrong I arnt a judge I had froch 1 round up but was very cagey cautious fight hard to call. And what you talking bout football for haha this isnt football
Some people in the stadium had it for Froch soi I don't think it was just commentary. I just think some people score for the fighter coming forward throwing shots wether they land on arms or not.
