Froch v Kessler PPV or Normal Sky Sports?

The definition of a PPV fighter is one who can generate buys regardless of the opponent. Can Froch do that? Is he really a household name? Are people, casuals in the street, talking about this fight?

No, they are not. Froch is not a PPV fighter. This is a man who needed to sign with a promoter with locked down Sky dates to get back on a major platform. These things are all facts.

I love Froch, he's a great fighter to watch, so is Kessler. Kessler is a PPV fighter in his own country. But he's not fighting in his own country.

This is not trolling, unless you're blind. It's just facts. We should not be celebrating this going to PPV. It's a backwards step and the exact **** that Frank used to pull.

 

It would be perfectly reasonable that this fight be made PPV because Carl Froch deserves it IMO.

He's always taken the toughest route possible, fighting the hardest fights and now he deserves to cash in.

No doubt Matchroom's cut will be reinvested back into further shows so everyone connected with boxing wins IMO - The fighters, the promoters, the TV companies and the fans.

 

Personally I think it will be PPV and Sky will be giving it the full beans when it comes to hype. I am what you would say is a casual fan and its something I would not a problem paying £15 for. Or even better split three ways at a fiver each between a couple of mates

This is a fight that will get a hell of a lot of casuals interested imo, its surprising what that SSN hype can do for a fight

 

Whilst this is a fantastic fight, I think it would only be worthy of PPV if it had a very strong undercard to back it up. I think Eddie said the date agreed is likely the 25th May. If they managed to get Frampton and Brook in their first title defences (touch wood they both win their upcoming title fights) on there then it would definitely be worth PPV.

However, if they just put the likes of Scotty Cardle, Kal Yafai and Lee Purdy against no-mark opponents on then absolutely no way. My gut feeling is that it will be PPV though. That was probably the major obstacle they were in a race against time to overcome, convincing Sky to go PPV again. Otherwise they probably wouldn't have been able to afford to bring Kessler to the UK.

 

Frampton and Brook would have to be in fights of real significence to make the card PPV. Brook will hardly be out anyway. If he can put together a quality undercard along with Froch-Kessler id buy it. But if Hearn puts together a fight poster in a few weeks with FROCH-KESSLER 2, also featuring Frampton, Barker, Ryder in TBA fights he can **** right off. Won't be buying it on the strength of that.

 

And if Eddie's paying Kessler that much, he must be paying Carl something similar . That's around £4m already. This needs to be a sell-out of a major venue (and let's remember there's no date agreed either), significant PPV sales, and some big promotional deals to turn a profit.

To cover those costs Matchroom will need to stack the card with amazing fights and, with so much going on the main event, what are the chances of that?

You can't ignore simple economic reality.

 

Sky will want it to be ppv. They will try as hard as they can to convince people that its a ppv fight. I think it will almost certainly be a ppv fight. I'm not going to start voicing my disgust until its official though.
