why would they do that when the promoters can make a shitload more money by selling out huge crowds in the UK or Germany

It's a good idea in terms of fairness, but it won't happen due to money. In Vegas the fight draws maybe 5,000 max. In England or Germany the fight is a major event.

Might as well just have it on an abandonned oil rig in the middle of the North Sea as in an empty venue in the US.

    What would be the point?

Hard enough to get people to go to watch boxing in the US when Americans are involved...

5000 is a chronic overestimate. 500 maybe. Dawson and Tarver had two fights in Vegas and didn't draw 3000 total between the two.

$$$$ is what rules the world. This fight wont take place in the U.S.

Not Vegas. There are plenty of tried and true boxing towns in the states that would pack them in.

You could put this fight on in Tampa, Florida and I guarantee 20,000 in the seats.

Can you give us some examples of some recent cards that have drawn 20,000 in Tampa?

fight should be where it was supposed to be. home town advantage is a big thing in boxing though and AA will need a hell of a performance to win in Nottingham. But Froch just lost a close fight in Denmark.

AA was totally outboxed in the States and then DQ'ed - if he had got away with that punch in Germany it would have killed the Super 6 dead.

Dawson vs Johnson was around 18,000.
Lacy vs. Reid was close to 20,000 but I tend to discount that one because Tampa is Lacy's back yard.

Dawson v Johnson also had Tarver v Woods as co-headline, Tarver is from Tampa iirc. I can't find an official attendance for that, but reports from the weigh-in describe ticket sales as 'tepid'.

Official attendance from reports of Lacy v Reid is given as 15,056.

But that doesn't mean that you can just stage a fight between two fighters with no connection to the area and expect similar numbers.

That doesn't remotely make sense, unless both promoters want to lose their shirts.

    How about Ireland.

Easy enough to get to for both sets of supporters plus the Irish like a drink and a ruck so may get a fair few locals.
