Hmm Mitchell was a 2 time world champ and Pascal had never fought a top 10 guy I dont think. I happen to think Pascal was criminally underrated compared to his talent and will go on to pick up a belt of two and have a good career but Mitchell was a proven operator.

  2. He had just lost to Ottke 2/3 months before he fought Joe.....then lost against a journeyman in his next fight

After 25 fights its Froch. At 31 it's Calzaghe.

Theres not really much point in the comparison. Once Carl retires then compare the 2.

He had just beaten Ottke by most peoples reckoning.

And the Hall fight was FOUR AND A HALF years later. In any case Hall was a bit more than a journeyman. Had he not been in a super tough division the guy would have been a world champ. He went 11 with a prime RJJ and also had 2 bouts with DM.

Two letters that sum up Calzaghes career perfectly

What fight were you watching? Taylor had him down, but he didn't look to be hurt, badly or otherwise

Unless he does something about his defence, which he probably wont this late in his career - he dropped his hands 5 seconds after getting a bollocking from his corner, then i can see him taking a massive beating while getting applauded by his fans for bravely fighting on.

He was hurt seveal times, as Barry McGuigan pointed out on ITV. It was pretty clear when he was stunned. I suggest you watch it again if you don't remember.

I'm surprised it's taken this long for some people to realise what a know all revisionist with a crap attitude jeff thomas is. we got there eventually though.

the guy compared calzaghe to brian neilsen a few months back, so what ever else he may or may not say should be questioned at the very least.

the 25 fight comparison may well be based on lists and "fact" but the circumstances both fighters find themselves in interms on age, experience, skillset, promotors, fanbase is that vast that the comparison is as diluted as jeff's brain cells

all this from a guy who failed to win an eliminator to be amir khan fodder a few years ago

at least it must be warm in his glass house....if it gets too hot wear your sombrero

too many people are using froch's win as an attack on calzaghe and vice versa, which is odd coming from all the so called intelligent knowledgable british forum fans

Froch record is better at the stage said, but Froch is 31 and been a pro for 7 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And its unfair to act as though the Robin Reid that fought Calzaghe was the same Reid that fought Froch, Reid was in semi retirement.

The word I objected to was "badly", its just not true.

IMO Frochs bronze in the 2001 World Ams surpasses anything that Calzaghe has achieved .........:hey

I would argue that the Reid that fought Froch was the same Reid that fought Froch without fear of contradiction till my dying day.

Age is the thing here and what may (or will) be accomplished at the end of their respective careers. The comparision made with fights fought isn't fair at all.
