Everthing says Calzaghe wins a decision. Too fast, too skillful, too good. He'd out box the much slower Froch and unlike so many other Froch opponents wouldn't fade down the stretch. But I think Froch as always would make it tough. He won't quit and he almost always seems to find a way to win. Kessler gave Calzaghe a tough fight and Froch is as good as Kessler so it would not be an easy fight for Calzaghe.
your lead main point is a life and death SD over outgassing a 43 yr old , you mean. YES. Once again - main point in your argument = eeking out a 43 year old. I can think of no champ in history who claims such. partially unify, as did froch. dfference being joe dumped his titles immediately bar a decent fight with bika. Froch kept his titles. YES. you forgot to mention one upmanship joe has, that Joe owed the lesser world title, something FRoch has never done. OH, YES. magazine title, YES. and froch has better resume, so froch is better than perfect according to you. WELL DONE. indeed.
This. Calzaghe has to much speed, movement and punch output for Froch combined with the fact he isn't going to get worn down by Froch's relentless pressure as the fight goes on. But this would be far from a Lacy style schooling that many Calzaghe fans claim it would be, Calzaghe's weakness of squaring up when he throws combos and then staying in the pocket after he's thrown them would open up opportunities for Froch's right hand which would land and hurt Calzaghe. A close UD win for Calzaghe but Froch would certainly have his moments and push it all the way.
Calzaghe would pick him apart. Main difference here is Calzaghe won't tire like most Froch opponents (Ward included), and he won't get hurt by Froch. Add in the fact that the speed, combinations, and angles Calzaghe used would have kept Froch completely befuddled. Ward was much better and faster: Result = Froch looked clueless until Ward tired Kessler was better, about the same speed, and durable: Result = Close win for both Bute was better and faster, but not durable: Result = Froch early KO Groves was better and faster, but not durable or conditioned: Result = Froch come-from-behind KO Taylor was better and faster, but not durable or conditioned: Result = Froch come-from-behind KO Abraham was not as good, slower, but durable and conditioned: Result = Froch shutout Johnson was better, slower, but durable and in decent shape: Result = Froch clear decision Dirrell was faster but not better: Result = Hugfest inconclusive Froch win. Calzaghe is much better, much faster, extremely durable, and supremely conditioned: Result = Calzaghe shutout Calzaghe combines all the factors that give Froch trouble (speed and skill), magnifies them to a degree Froch hasn't seen, and exemplifies the characteristics needed to survive Froch (durability and conditioning). Not even Ward can put everything together like that (Ward has slight conditioning/durability issues). Calzaghe would give Froch a severe slapping because he is a complete fighter. All the physical traits, all the heart, all the skill and experience, special speed, and a slight lack of power. Ward is the same except he lacks some of the physical traits and doesn't have a standout trait like Calzaghe's speed.
I agree with the consensus. Calzaghe wins it easily, maybe even stops him, through sheer overwhelming number of punches.
I never was fan of Calzaghe or his slaps to be frank. But he is technically better then Froch, no doubt and faster. But then again Calzaghe was put down by Hopkins and was on real shaky legs against ghost of Jones jr. Froch is ankward, relentless, has iron chin and punches like a mule. It would be a tough tough fight for Slappy no doubt about it. Who knows.
i'd pick calzaghe as well prime for prime over froch by decision but if froch can stay behind his jab and come forward he could make it a tough night. both guys seem to get stronger as the fight wears on.
Prime Calzaghe would've clowned Froch. He is way too fast for Froch. And Calzaghe had a hell of a chin too so no Groves or Taylor scenario.
calzaghe is now the bigger man than carl, I agree. around the waist that is, hes a virtual cruiserweight these days with all the pies hes eating.
