Firstly, Dawson's left isn't his power hand. Secondly, Dawson isn't a guy who looks to KO anyone. If a guy like Dirrell can thoroughly outbox him, why can't a bigger, more skilled, and more polished guy do the same. This would only be competitive if Dawson is drained....which he will be

Dirrell didn't thoroughly outbox him. He jumped around on the floor, didn't throw any punches, held on for dear life everytime Froch got in range and then bitched about being robbed.

If Froch carries his power at 170 he wins this fight. Dawson, while skilled, is a part-time fighter in the ring. He throws for 30 seconds and takes rounds off, against an aggressive fighter that will force him to throw he won't be comfortable at all. The Pascal fight is a good example why Dawson will always crumble against active fighters.

While Dirrell completely outclassed Froch, Dawson is not more skilled. Dirrell as a prospect nearly kod Dawson in sparring as states by Floyd Sr

    Couple of things.

Out boxed? Pull the other one.

And most people agree that Froch is a much better fighter now than he was then. It's a different ball game.

Again the thread title claims 'at 170' so what does Dawson do to win here? He doesn't have the legs to move around. Do you think he'd be physically stronger? Can he keep Froch off of him? How?

He'd be far too stationairy at 170 and take too many shots.

Dirrell isn't as mature or accomplished a fighter as Dawson is, but I think Froch matches up better with Chad. Dirrell had a fluidity between his offense and defense and a mobility that Dawson doesn't seem to exhibit. He has it in him to win, even with the catch-weight, but I see Froch having more success than he did against Dirrell either way.

Dawson easily defeated Johnson 2nd fight, Diaconu, and Adamek. All pressure fighters who throw high volume.

Dawson struggled with Pascal because of Pascals quickness and explosiveness and the awkward angles he comes from. Dawson likes to measure and relax. Pascal made him think faster than he could respond

Froch is a snail in comparison. Not only that Froch isnt a pressure fighter. He uses his length and attempts to counter puncher by luring opponents into attacking where he can get exchanges.

Against Kessler, Dirrell, Ward and Taylor when Froch is forced to lead he looks awfuk

Dirrell didn't need to commit to his back foot. He doesn't have the composure to stand and slip punches. Froch is slow and predictable with little defense. Dawson will have zero trouble landing the jab. The only reason this would be competitive is if Dawson is drained.

I'm not disagreeing Dawson has the advantages, he should be favored, but mentally, he's not as reliable as Froch, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him getting caught or pushed back in a lazy moment and then thrown off for a while as Froch continues to throw. Dirrell was very focused against Froch and mixed up his attack very well in ways Dawson doesn't. Dawson also seems sensitive to feints and Froch was setting up his right hand with a variety of set-ups with his left against Bute, who was supposed to be the superior ring general. Again, I favor Dawson, but there's danger.
