I had Froch up by one point, from a very good seat in the arena. Most people near me had Froch winning handily, but I said to the guy next to me that Froch needed the last, and that I wouldn't be surprised to hear a split decision called.
I can't believe this was even a close fight on some scorecards...Dirrell did nothing to win this fight and deserves very little credit for just surviving. Sad fact is that Dirrell will probably receive more credit than JT for displaying 10 percent of "bad intentions" heart and toughness. Jermain was a warrior on Saturday and Dirrell was a coward for most of the fight...it was disgraceful!!
I think its very telling to see how things fare in Europe, and having those fights there just showed why it is difficult to go overseas and be successful. The fights were ugly and very hard to watch, despite that, I thought that the fights were of good quality ... but it didn't meet my expectations as far as all the hype surrounding the tournament. The Andre Ward vs Mikkel Kessler fight will tell how the tournament will fare in the eyes of the US fanbase. I heard that Ward managed to see out the Oracle Arena for his fight against Kessler ... the atmosphere I expect will be electric and out of these two fighters we should get the best display of overall skill. Politics came to play and I didn't appreciate that at all, being a fight fan, I can't understand why there has to be some much b/s involved when conducting championship fights in Europe ... the best and the worst thing about it, was that Abraham was able to get the knockout ... but hell he looked terrible ... he did look strong, but I seen so many holes in his game it makes no sense. His game plan is solid and effective - he managed to take Jermain out of the fight and have his way with him down the stretch ... but he did expose his inability to throw "straighter" punches and when he threw combinations, he left his chin in the air. Froch keeps going down on my radar ... he's a decent fighter but there's too much Ricky Hatton in him and not enough Joe Calzaghe. I seen a couple of instances where Dirrell had a "golden" opportunity to at least knock Froch down but was hesitant on pulling the trigger. Dirrell showed great skill and poise with it being his first 12 round fight and first championship fight, and he's going to do nothing but get better as this fight comes along. I'm 100% that if Dirrell had to do it again, that he would knock Froch out ... his punches were starting to have an effect on Froch but he was unable to jump on him. One thing that I have to point out is that these "come forward" fighters don't have the chins that they appear to have, they have a great sense of not looking hurt, when they actually might be ... they just keep coming forward. I think Froch showed some chincs in his amor ... it was one point during the 10th or 11th round where he clearly looked hurt off of taking a straight left ... stumbled back and momentarily dropped his hands ... but I don't think Dirrell noticed it at the time ... but he should once they watch the tape.
The main reason these two fights were a bit of a let down after such a big build up was because of bad stylistic match ups. There are better stylistic match ups later on in the tournament.
I for one am happy that the Froch fight was overseas...I would hate the idea of Dirrell being rewarded for that type of fight. It is ultimately bad for the sport to reward that style of fighting with a win. If more fights were like Taylor/Abraham, MMA would be a thing of the past.
I think it was a pretty good start. Minus Taylor getting hurt that badly. I hope he will fully recover. Really this devastating KO put some kind of a shadow over the whole tournament. We'll see if he will retire from the tournament or otherwise be replaced.
Its not about reward, Dirrell did enough in that fight to win it ... I don't think Froch was himself and the result was him being Dirty ... Froch didn't win more than 4 rounds convincingly ... at worse it should've been a draw. I had it 114-113 Dirrell
Abraham vs Taylor was a nice fight. Nothing wrong or "disgusting" about that. Abraham got the job done as he was expected to and showed dangerous signs AGAIN by showing one punch KO power in the last few seconds of round 12. What was disturbing to watch was another circus hosted for drunken suicidal homos in England, Carl "The British IMPROVED Sugar Ray Leonard" Froch getting a robbery and a referee that would allow him to throw combinations to the balls, back of the head and wherever he wants to.
Yes you're right...Froch didn't win more than 4 rounds convincingly but neither did Dirrell...very ugly and hard fight to score. He started to gain confidence down the stretch but it was too late apparently. I hope both fighters can learn from this and put on a better performance in their next bouts.
So far it's a wash. We had one hell of a fight with a very satisfactory conclusion (unless you're a Razorback fan). We then had one crapfest with a dodgy decision that not enough people are going to care about because the loser (and rightful winner in many's eyes) was too much of a douchebag in his behavior to really win too many hearts and minds beyond his already built-in fanbase.
Even though I was routing for Taylor, Abraham didn't leave any specultation to who the winner was. But the Dirrell vs Froch fight is different ...
Kessler wasn't impressed with Abraham ... at all and he said that Taylor could've won the fight, if he would've thrown more than the jab ... and maybe throw in some looping punches to the body ... because after all that hitting the arms and elbows, Taylor did manage to get Abraham to drop his hands ... I think if you're patient against Abraham you can beat him ... his showed some chincs in his armor as well. Taylor had some point when he looked to effect Abraham with his punches.
are the same people that thinks stealing is ok. I mean promoters who host a huge event is not going to send you a check. They don't send trained dogs that barks for their guy a check. They just want to you believe that stealing is ok. To regular fans eyes that saw this in disgust? You are all scum. Stole Dirrell's o, stole his time and hardwork, stole his trust thinking he can get a fair shake in a crowd we are not there to see who is the best. Froch didn't do **** and awarded to keep his title. He didn't do **** and still be up so high where Dirrell even with a kd still would have lost. Shameless *******s.
