Yes those extra 8lbs could be crucial. AA, Pavlik and Taylor were not the same when they moved up and Golovkin may end up being the next in a line of top middles who couldn't make the transition up to the more competitive super middleweight division. Though if the rumours of the Golovkin and Groves sparring sessions are true it seems Golovkin can hurt super middles or at least Groves. Golovkin apparently hurt Groves to the ribs but it's also rumoured Groves dropped Golovkin. Even if GGG power is real at 168lbs what's coming back at him maybe more than he can handle.
You hit on the nail "diminished Abraham". Since when was Smith known as having a good jaw? I highly doubt anyone would categorize someone that has only stopped Smith as an elite puncher. Froch's chin has been through a lot of wear an tear, comparing it to a Marquez/Pacquiao type shot is just wrong though. He didn't run, he was moving foward slowly throwing punches and he got caught, it wasn't a lunging type movement like Pacquiao who went into Marquez's right hand with speed(Remember Froch got caught on the second punch after moving foward, if it was the first punch then yes it would be comparable, but still not even close to the same magnitude.) Froch has a great chin no doubt though, but GGG hits harder than Groves, and will be hitting Froch more constantly. I just don't see Froch lasting or going into a shell like Murray did for the majority of the fight. If he fights like Murray then he'll survive but I just don't see it.
Yes that shot Froch up from was ridiculous. Misses a right and runs right into a flush power shot, how on earth he got up is beyond me and he then takes 2 or 3 more clean right hands and seems fine. Then the 6th round where he just walks into combinations from Groves, taking flush shot after flush shot and is throwing back between being hit is insane. That round was crucial, Groves threw the sink at him and it just made Froch fight back harder. My head says Golovkin is technically too good for Froch, too much of an offensive machine, the way he cuts off the ring, the way he works an opponent over, head to body but then you see Froch do this and you wonder what will happen if Froch walks through Golovkin's best like he did Groves. It could happen Froch is a double hard bast.ard and some.
No way he walks through GGG's shots, he wasn't walking through Groves bests shots either like it was nothing, he took damage. Groves is garbage anyways imo, I really don't get why people thought highly of this guy, the only thing good he did was rob Degale in a close fight. I give him credit for making it close so I actually rate Degale very highly. Compared to GGG, Groves is a D level fighter.
See that's where we differ Groves is a real talent who shouldn't written off just because he lost to Froch, DeGale is legit as well they're both good fighters.
I'm not writing him off because he lost to Froch, I've always thought lowly of him. Only thing impressive on his resume is giving Degale a good fight, but I had Degale winning. He'd probably beat Abraham, and Stielglitz, but both Dirrel's would beat him, Degale would destroy him in a rematch, and I'd even pick Chavez Jr to stop him. Hell, I'd pick Ramirez to beat him too and I think that guy gets hit way too much, and is extremely overrated.
I'd use the fact that he knocked frock senseless in the first fight with a single punch and very nearly ko'd him,I've seen frock take serious amounts of punishment from numerous top level fighters and never had near the effect as that single punch
wait a minute he couldn't march through murray to an early tko ? what makes you think he could march through froch ?
Fair enough, but that's not enough for me to consider him an elite puncher, nor the majority of this forum I presume(aside from the Froch army of course). He has to actually stop someone elite, or a bunch of decent guys before he gets that title.
because Froch won't fight in a shell like Murray. When Froch gets hurt he fires back, Murray was running and hiding in the shell for the majority of the fight.
Of course he took damage but they didn't have the effect you'd expect, especially after the knockdown in the first. Groves hit him with a 6 or 7 punch combination in the 6th round, all flush, all power shots. Did Froch cover up at all? Nope he was throwing back while getting hit, I'm sure he felt those shots but the way he reacted to them they might as well have been tickles not punches. I've seen guys with iron chins like Hagler, McCall or Mercer take huge shots from huge punchers they at least had the decency to cover up or look to defend themselves Froch didn't even do that he just fired right back while eating punches. Not a great strategy to be fair especially against a puncher like Golovkin but it worked and it has a psychological effect when you hit a fighter that flush, that often and all he does is try and hit you back. Groves is clearly world class, to say he's garbage is a big exaggeration on your part. He's fast, he's powerful, he's dangerous. Is he the future of the division, probably not, he seems fragile and his stamina is an issue. But to say he's garbage is itself a garbage statement.
You're right, I did exaggerate a bit, I didn't mean literally garbage, he is a top 10 talent in his division, but he just doesn't have the whole package. I see his future being very bleak. I don't think Froch taking Golovkin's punches will affect him psychological really. Everyone knows Froch has an iron chin, and GGG will keep on plowing until he gets Froch out of there unless he hides like Murray did.
GGG keeps coming because Geale Macklin Ishida and Murray are all feather fisted, Rubio evidently just wanted to collect a check, and Stevens seems to lack pop when he steps up. So its easy to walk them down, it will not be easy to walk Carl down .......because he hits really hard too.:deal
GGG applies one of the most intelligent kind of pressure I've seen. Stevens does not lack pop when he "steps up", that doesn't make sense. Froch probably does hit harder than Stevens, but Stevens hit him FLUSH, with the best shot he could ever give anyone. I don't think Froch has the kind of power that can keep GGG off him. Of course if GGG doesn't fit into 168 well my theories could be proven completely, wrong but if he has the same or more power and durability at 168, I stand by my statements.
Better competition means better chins, Stevens is good a blowing out guys who are bums but when he steps up his comp just like you said with Groves he lacks the same kind of pop. And Stevens hit him with a few good jabs but he didn't land to many left hook money punches on GGG. I rate GGG highly but I think you and many others don't give Carl near the respect he deserves he's one of the most underrated and under appreciated fighters on ESB.
