if there were ever a candidate, it's froch. on central news yesterday they went to sheffield to do a feature, opening with some footage from when they rocked up and he was training with what looked like a sprint team. the reporter said he then sparred 17 rounds v 3 boxers and mentioned another workout! i still favour froch because for all of gg's footwork, timing and speed advantages, he's no defensive master. he gets tagged plenty, and unlike froch, can't afford to be. if he does box cautiously, he allows froch to nick rounds through activity and force the pace. boxing and moving takes it out of you too. unlike some on here, whatever the result i'll be happy, absolutely buzzing now, enjoy everyone!
incidentally i think the left hook may be to counter froch's right to the body under gg's jab. he'll feint the jab then counter hook over the body shot. perhaps.
For the sake of Britsh boxing i hope Groves wins, Froch will likely retire within a year regardless be good to have a new star Groves has the perfect platform if he wins.
People are going on the first fight Lee, when your massive nosed brother was nearly taken out in the 1st round, the Pole is shot and SGG is going to make a mess of him.
Operative word being 'nearly' It's sort of embarrassing for this forum how much people are overrating this ginga coward. He's going to be DESTROYED.
Wait until you're in the hospital on sunday visiting big nose, SGG will be parading the belts around London at the same time.
1) Do you really think Froch will be overtrained? He's a massively experienced boxer who knows stamina is one of his strong points. He bangs on about keeping meticulous records of his training and in McCracken has a trainer who certainly knows his sports science. In the first fight he got off to a bad start, lost most of the rounds before the stoppage and still had a lung advantage on Groves. He won't be overtrained. 2) Froch has a stock style that has worked pretty well for him over the years but if you don't see variation in his fights I don't know what you're watching. Even then, Froch's stock style is the best way for him to fight Groves. If he starts a bit more cautiously than the first fight and picks his flurries a little better I think he wins. If Groves catches him again then all credit as Froch will be watching for it, that might not be enough. If Groves improves his punch resistance (not stamina, punch resistance) then all credit, that will likely be enough. I don't see it though. Groves doesn't have the defence to stop Froch damaging him and that'll see the second half being Froch's. 3) Strength and conditioning coach? See point one, Froch won't be overtrained. 4) I'm not quite sure what you're getting at. He (Froch) can take a punch? Will in the first round he was knocked down but not out. So either he couldn't take the punch because it knocked him down or he could because it didn't knock him out. None of the other punches in the first round did much of anything? To be honest, the first round was a non entity bar for the knockdown so what do you mean? I'd put money on Froch not lunging in with a big punch early doors again so I doubt it will be relevant either way. 5) Doesn't matter until you're in the big leagues. Froch isn't a knockout artist only 4 of 23 went the distance with him before he moved to world level (against Pascale). Since then it's 4 of 11 including a 12th round knockout of Taylor and the early stoppage against Groves. World level is a different game. 6) If I was a Groves fan I'd be worried about hanging my hopes on that. You knock a man out in the first round with a great punch yet you can't do it again when he's weakened. Do you really think it's more likely, now that Froch respects Groves' speed and power that he'll be as careless (and it was carelessness that led to the knockdown) this time around? How many flush right hands has Froch taken over the years that didn't put him out? From good punchers like Kessler and Johnson too. Anyone banking on Froch being knocked out is insane in my opinion. Could I see Groves getting on top, wearing Froch down and forcing a stoppage? Unlikely but possible. A one punch clean knockout? Get out of here, you don't bet against Froch's chin! Anyway. Fan bollocks to one side. I can't wait for tomorrow. I'll be hanging out of my arse after a big Friday on the sauce but will have recovered nicely by the start of the card. If I'm on here afterwards please disregard anything I say as I'll be back on it. Once I watched it again on the Sunday then I might just have an opinion.
Overtraining's largely a myth. That was a pretty dumb thing for team GG to say. I too am a neutral. Let's hope it's a good fight. :good :happy
i ain't neutral, i'm a froch fan and want to see him win, but boxers don't last forever and if gg wins he'll have earnt it and i'll be pleased for him.
True , I agree if he wins he deserves it , he is at the moment the second best in the country at his weight , If he wins , the rubber match will decide once and for all , who the best is .
