Possibly Froch see's Pavlik as a very beatable 'big name.' Lets face it, Hopkins, Kessler or Calzaghe would be far too skilled for Carl.
As far as I'm concerned and everything I have heard there won't be any bouncing around from MW to SMW until Kelly is ready to move up. I still think the KP vs. mora fight will get made I heard there were some hangups w/ the tv and money (GO FIGURE!) The Froch-Pavlik matchup would be a great one for the fans cause both guys punch well and take a great shot. However the Taylor vs. Froch fight was the first that I really studied carl and for a better part of that fight I thought he was very average. JT landed early and often thru the first 3/4 of the fight and if he just circles the ring in rounds 11-12 he's the new champ. I do give credit to Froch for his relentless pursuit and heart of a champion. Kelly would not fade late, as a matter of fact he gets stronger as the fight goes on. He would tag Carl early and set the table for a late KO.
Both of these guys tend to wear people down before they go in for the kill; they both have very good chins. How you can predict a 3rd round KO with certainty in the face of those facts is beyond me.
Exactly, and this suggests that Pavlik's getting lazy and complacent if he thinks he can beat a guy with little or no training - even if that guy is Mora. Or (hopefully) he's looking for another fight.
He has about two weeks to make it a full training camp and just because the fight isn't signed is no guarantee he isn't going to prepare for it if he expects it to get signed, but still....... Hint. You can put extra weight on mickeyc's posts in this area. :think
I don't predict it with certainty.:huh Where did I say that? Just believe that there's a decent possibility.
The bold underlined part made me laugh out loud:yep I was mostly repsonding to what you said about whether or not Pavlik could back Froch up. I agree that this match-up would be a war of attrition, and that is Kelly's fight. The size and strength factor is an open question. Pav has fought above 160 about 13 times, but always as a blown up middle, never a true SMW. I would assume that if he were to take a fight with Froch, it would be a permanent move up. That means he would add the 8 pounds of lean muscle instead of just boiling down less than normal. Cameron Dunkin would no doubt make sure they did it the right way. Froch is strong, yes, but KP uses a golf club to batter tractor tires around in a field. Give KP the additional 8 pounds of lean muscle, and any size and strength advantage Froch MIGHT have goes away pretty fast.
Strange thing here, and I called some of Froch fans on it and haven't heard back, is they say he walks around at 172/3? Pavlik walks around a little heavier than that. Before the fight the Froch fans used the fact Froch was the bigger guy as a reason for winning and after the fight Taylor was the bigger guy! atsch
I think if pavlik gets froch in trouble like taylor had him, kelly finishes him off. Froch got caught saturday, but not as bad as kelly did in the first taylor fight. Kelly was badly hurt with half a round to go, absorbing a combo that would have KO'd most. It was a taylor right that put froch on the seat of his trunks, but at the time there were only 30 seconds left in the round and taylor did not go after him like he went after Pavlik. Kelly Pavlik has a killer instinct and survival skills that simply can't be taught. I think that would be the difference in this fight if it ever gets made. The real question is: does Kelly carry that power up to 168?
Froch was not hurt to bad in the 3rd. I do think Taylor could have done more with the KD than he did, but rushing in for the kill would have been a mistake.
Hard one to call, Pavlik showed alot of heart in the first Taylor fight, and looked good in the second, the he fought Locket who sucked, lost to hopkins, and fought Rubio who did not fight back. And I only saw 2 Froch fights, but I think it will be a good fight if it happens, because neither will back down.
I agree with you Boo, the shot that Froch got knocked down with was more of a shot to the top of the head/temple. Messed up his equilibrium for a moment. As far as Froch vs a Pavlik fight, I don't think a fight can be more even. Froch with his chin and unorthodox stance, Pavlik with his workrate and concussive power. I honestly don't think pavlik will ko froch, his chin is unbelievably granite. I think if Pavlik comes in with a gameplan of attacking Froches body early in the fight, with the way froch has horrible defense, this will open him up more for a sustainded attack for the 2nd half of the fight. 50/50 fight, depends how Froch reacts to pavs power and vice versa, I am leaning towards a pav sd at the moment. :thumbsup
All indications are that Pavlik isn't going to do anymore division hopping. He'll focus on unifying at 160. Pavlik/Abraham should happen in November. Sturm picked Pavlik to win, and claimed he wants to fight him soon after. Paul Williams is a viable opponent now, if Arum and Goosen can settle their quarrel. I also think Winky is still in the mix. Cleaning out 160 will take some time, but that will probably be KP's focus. Therefore, this is the last Pavlik/Froch post I am going to make. Those who pick Froch are consistently missing some fundamental points; mainly styles make fights, and Froch has the perfect style to make KP look good. Stevie Wonder could hit Froch with left hands, and Kelly has one of the best educated and versatile left hands in the business. Anytime a fighter holds his left down low against KP he gets absolutely battered by right hands in 4 or 5 different ways. Froch's defense is somewhere between atrocious and non-existant. Against Pavlik, defensive flaws get you knocked the **** out. No power puncher has ever hurt KP. Their is a direct relationship between Kelly's chin, and the old addage "speed kills" Fighters with fast hands trouble Pavlik. A power puncher can't buy a blink with his life savings. Froch has never been hit as hard or as often as Pavlik would hit him. Carl's lack of defensive prowess, and lack of reflexive speed, add up to one thing; by the 4th round Froch would be hurt and frustrated. Pavlik would be landing 50-60%. He would be catching Froch with long left hooks, jabs, right hand leads, and the jab/right hand damn near at will. It doesn't matter how tough Froch is, or how good his chin is, nobody could stand up to the punishment he would take from Pavlik. Style make fights, and this one is all wrong for Froch. He'd get sparked by a middleweight in 8-9 rounds. Very bad for a SMW career.
