Entirely dependent upon what the budget is. Unless we know the budget, it's hard to determine either way. I think it's a bit steep but he IS the champion...sort of kind of.

Fair post! Put it this way; as long as Taylor is getting 40% or better $1 million for Froch is fine. Personally I think Dibella should just make the freaking fight, and put that green belt around Taylor's waist!!!

    Am I reading this?

A champion does not deserve 1 million DOLLARS for crossing over the pond and defending his title in the challengers garden? "Paper title" is a complete red herring, because we know if Taylor happened to win he'd be considered legit, and as such Froch should be treated with that same respect beforehand. He did what the WBC asked of him to win the title, so if Taylor wants the famous belt, 1 million is MORE than reasonable.

If he wants to carry on scratching around avoiding the beltholders, all power to him. Nobody is coming on a shorter straw than this, and nobody is going to present him with a better chance to pick up a belt than Carl Froch.

I would think Taylor might consider Bute first. Bigger money and then if he wins, he has belt AND name leverage. But 'better chance' is a fair assessment. You, nor anyone else, have ever mistaken me for a genius when it comes to boxing analysis, but there were times Froch and Pascal looked like a couple of windmill trying to take off. I think Taylor has enough speed and skill to discourage Froch from wading in much. Pick up his points win and go home with the belt. Though, I also think there is enough of a skill difference this would be Taylor's best chance of getting a KO in a long time.

OK. I'll put on my asbestoes undies and wait......

Bute is busy according to Dibella.

Yeah, I wouldn't be laying too much cash down on a JT stoppage considering he's shown zero capability to knock out good opponents of any weightclass, nevermind a durable one. By points is a smart bet indeed.

There might be more money in the pot for a showdown with Bute, but I think Bute would demand a good portion of that pot rather than $1m. I suppose it depends if the networks are more interested in Bute, its a possibility. Bute is probably a tougher stylistic fight also, so you have to weigh up which is the smarter option overall. He could win a belt against Froch and be in a far better bargaining position in the division considering he would then have his marquee name and status in the division.

Froch makes sense to me, more than the others.

1 million sounds unreasonable to me. I would think there's a farily limited demand to see Froch fight. Froch is essentially a nobody with limited skills and a fantastic chin. He's done well for himself and built up a bit of fan base but IMO there are many other SMWs that would beat him (and despite what others say I think SMW is a fairly weak division), which brings his stock and bargaining power down a bit. Bika, Bute, Kessler, Taylor, Mundine and possibly even Andrade and Lacy would beat him so I'm not sure he's in a position to be making such demands. Perhaps get at least one win against a world class opponant before making fairly lofty purse demands. I guess it depends whether Taylor's promoter thinks that buying Froch's belt is worth that much.

That makes no sense whatsoever. Because YOU think Andrade, Lacy, Bika and whoever else might beat him, that brings down his bargaining power?

His bargaining power is the WBC belt, and the fact Kessler is tied up for the forseeable future, and Bute is busy. That is his bargaining power right there. If Taylor wants to go anywhere in the division soon, he has to look no further than Froch.

The above is a good explaination of why I find this whole situation so frustrating. It seems like a relatively easy fight for JT, and it would put him very near the top of a stacked division.

I've made this point before. ADVERTISING. HBO and Showtime don't want to put in the effort I guess.

We're just talking a fight in the US here, of course, and still dealing with Marley's figure that is probably made up anyway.

Taylor still has the option of letting Hennessy win the pursebid and stage the fight in the UK. Then it's Hennessy's problem how to make back the money he's paying. Also the 'limited demand' that you talk of to see Froch fight would actually equate to probably the biggest TV audience Taylor has had in his career (I say 'probably' because I dont actually have figures for what his biggest audience has been - perhaps someone else can confirm?). That would be useful publicity for Taylor, especially as many of the big fighters in the division are based in Europe.
