Pantera2000 confirmed they are talking. Sounds very preliminary but evidently, it seems Taylor has a date, a venue and a budget and isn't willing to budge.

Smart move if it's true. Might as well get 7 figures when you know you're going to lose.

I could be off base here, but I don't think "Bully the Bully" is quite JT's style. :D

To anyone who say Froch's demands are reasonable.

Where the hell are they going to find the money to pay Froch's purse? The guy is an absolute nobody on this side of the pond. They will never be able to raise the kind of money to be able to pay Froch (1million), Taylor (At least 1 million) as well as Spinks and his opponent. Especially not on Showtime money.

    You guys are delusional.

There's a difference between reasonable and realistic. What you described is how realistic you think it is.

Do you genuinely think it's unreasonable for a fighter who hasn't had a big payday yet to put his title on the line in the challenger's back yard, with his ref, without getting a good payday for taking the risk?

If the fight is held in Little Rock, they might be able to raise 1 mil. Taylor will have to agree to take what is left, if anything. I would imagine that HBO will chip in a hefty percentage of the purse. If Taylor wins, which I believe he will, his marketability will skyrocket. HBO has the money, and they have the marketing power. The question is will they risk it on Taylor. Personally, I don't think the risk is all that big. Froch is a good style match for Taylor.

HBO wants nothing to do with a Taylor-Froch fight.

I've heard that said, but I think they will change their minds. Froch has a fan friendly style and he has a belt. What more can HBO ask for? If they expect every opponent to have a high profile they are going to run out of opponents. There is little point in keeping Taylor in the roster if they aren't willing to kick start his career.

Why would they change their minds if they've already made their position clear? What has changed? The current financial situation means that these companies aren't prepared to throw good money after bad. Froch just isn't worth much to them cos he is an absolute nobody who has one win against a solid, albeit mediocre, world level nobody. If the networks only fund big match-ups then big fights will get made.

The problem here Ralph is that HBO knows diddly-**** about boxing. Seriously! They seem to have no clue how to develop and maintain a marque fighter.

How many times do I have to say this?

Froch has put out a negotiating position (if this story is even true). He's not in a position to demand anything, Taylor is his mandatory contender. Dibella can bid whatever is financially reasonable and, if he wins, Froch has to take his cut or vacate his title (which won't happen). If Dibella loses, then it is Hennessy's problem where the money comes from and Taylor and Dibella don't have to worry about that.

Of course, if Dibella had any intention of actually making the fight, then he would have done it when they had the shot at the vacant title (and his fighter would have been guaranteed a bigger cut). Everything at this point is very likely just for show, so he can make it seem like it's valid when he pulls out of the pursebid and Taylor fights Miranda or the eagerly anticipated Lacy rematch instead...

This seems like a very simplistic view of the situation.

DiBella can't just offer whatever he wants - he's got to have funding coming from somewhere, otherwise he loses money. He can't just go in and put in a higher purse bid without financial support coming from elsewhere (in this case, Showtime). Considering DiBella is probably showing all his cards right now in an effort to prevent the fight from going to purse bids, I think whatever Showtime can offer is already on the table for Froch and Hennessy to consider.

So if the fight goes to purse bid and DiBella is edged out by Hennessy, Taylor most likely gets stuck with a 30% challenger's share unless otherwise specified by the WBC, this is IN ADDITION to having to travel to the UK. There is absolutely no chance Taylor will accept such a small share of the purse, which is likely to be well under $1 million, on top of traveling to the UK.

Having the fight made prior to purse bids is really the only way to guarantee Taylor gets a fair payday for the name recognition he brings to the fight. Otherwise, you can bet the fight won't come off at all.
