Umm....... WBC has already given GGG written mandate that he fights the winner of WBC belt holders next fight. He is already mando, no matter who wins against Cotto and they did that when they expected Cotto to face Canelo.

WBC Prez was in Monaco personally to d**** that interim belt on GGG. WBC has had GGG in for all sorts of promotions and press events and tours... they have made it very clear that they are extremely proud of their interim champ.

Dont expect a repeat of what Martinez went through with WBC with GGG, the WBC and their Prez love Golovkin.

Yeah you have a point. He has the same issue as Ward. Not a lot of interesting fights at his weight class but not a frame big enough to comfortably jump to the higher division. A fight with Froch or Chavez would be awesome. Ward is too much of a stylistic nightmare for Golovkin for a first fight at 168.

A mandate if the winner is Cotto not Canelo.:deal Let's be honest the WBC is a biased organization and they love Canelo. Do you actually think they would make Canelo fight GGG for his first defense of the belt? Be honest.

I'm not a Canelo hater I picked him to beat Lara. So I have no idea why you're coming at me like that? If it was up to Canelo he would GGG no doubt unfortunately GBP's isn't going to allow that to happen for his very next fight if he beats Cotto. Canelo is GBP's cash cow they won't let him take that fight right away. Canelo is still young they will wait for GGG to get older and make some easy money fights first before they try and make that fight, at the end of the day this is still a business as much as we tend to forget.:deal

Yeap, I think they would. Canelo/Oscar even said they would face GGG in that situation. Canelo playing games with his mandatory would hurt his popularity. He lost to Floyd but remains a star because he takes hard fights.

Also recall that though Martinez was messed with - that was the old Prez. Plus Martinez topped out at MSG Theatre in terms of draw. Golovkin already surpasses him in terms of name and money in the US by far, and is popular with Mexicans to boot.

Its easy to be cynical, I know. Historically speaking there is also good reason for it. But current conditions point toward Golovkin getting his mandatory enforced.

Cotto will fight Canelo in September. With that said I don't think Cotto beats Canelo so if Canelo wins they won't make GGG Canelo's mando. Even if Cotto wins he won't fight GGG for his next fight and you can't expect him to do so. Two big fights like that in a row at his age is too much. He won't do it and will vacate or come to some agreement with the WBC.

Why in the hell would Froch move down in weight? The Triple Duck isn't even the champion @ 160...

Just to clarify - what is most likely to happen is Cotto vacating, and GGG fighting Lemieux for vacant WBC or getting elevated to full and DL getting mando. But id put odds at 10 to 1 that Cotto vacates and GGG and DL fight

The fly in ointment in whole thing is Cotto ego. What lots of people want him to do, is vacate WBC now and fight K9 for his 154 IBF. That way no complaints when they go to make the Canelo fight. Canelo could then fight him for a 154 strap, which not having GGG in line would make Oscar happy.

Cotto wants to defend his 160 strap at 154 so he can also get K9 154 IBF. Basically he wants his cake and to eat it as well. Right now it seems like working out the fight weight and sanctioning is why the K9 fight has yet to be finalized.

I just wish he would drop the 160 title and go on his merry way at 154.

    :lol::rofl:lol:
You think the WBC is beyond going back on their word to GGG? They will make up some bogus belt calling it the super championship or diamond championship, I'm telling you right now Cotto-Canelo will happen before Cotto-GGG and the WBC won't strip Cotto if he fights Canelo later this year. You can mark it down. The WBC wants Canelo as their champ.

Do you honestly think Cotto gives a damn about a title if he can fight Canelo this year for a **** load of more money? People like you have this romantic idea about boxing and boxers, at the end of the day it's a business and money is what comes first.:deal Cotto is coming to the end of his career he will take money over a belt any day, you're the one who's delusional, I'm a realist .:deal

Cotto will fight Canelo before GGG. WBC will still strip him unless K2 agrees to a step-aside, which they would only do for a provisional bout agreement.

Suleiman Jr is young and still idealistic, and is acutely aware of the rep problem the orgs are facing and dangers from AIBA and Haymons PBC league. Do not expect him to toss his or WBC credibility out the window so early in his tenture.

I don't believe Froch wants GGG because he is on record saying there is no need to fight him.

I would have to believe Froch wants Ward rematch in Great Britain only.

Froch definitely seems to want the JCC fight in Vegas above all else.
