i was thinking about these two earlier and when you consider how both of their careers went after they fought, is there anyone out there that ranks Froch as the #1 SMW?:think Yes Ward beat him and will beat him again if they fought but since then Froch has gained two belts, KO'd Bute who many people had as #1 or #2 in the division, Ko'd Groves twice and hasnt lost while Ward hasnt fought a top smw and has been very inactive. since ratings are based on a what have you done lately manner doesnt that put Froch on top?

    Still have Ward number 1,

Froch has defo closed the gap since they fought though, and will replace Ward as number 1 when Ward's been inactive for a year (which he probably will be).

Ratings are only based on what they have done lately when they favour an American mate same with all other ranking situations

I often dont like ratings, as I find that they can be, if not bent to suit, based on opinions too much, when I think they should be on results.
Consider with the Ring, Kessler beat Froch, then after Frochs next fight he went above Kessler, by beating Abraham coming off a loss. Froch and Ward ended up as 1 and 2, ready for the S6 final where a Ring mag champ could be crowned.
At the start of the S6, Kessler was #1, when Ward beat him, Bute was then at #1 as I recall.
I think if Ward had of beaten undefeated Bute, it would have been considered his biggest win. It was a big win for Froch.
I think overall Froch probably has the better SMW resume, if not greater, definately not any less I dont think, but Ward has the win over Froch some while back.
With the Ring ratings at LHW, Hopkins is above Dawson who beat Hopkins, due to fight results.
I guess it comes down to opinion

Froch will overtake Ward when Ward is inactive for a year.

While the gap has tightened, people tend to forget the wide gap between them after Ward had beaten #1 Kessler and Froch had lost to Kessler after previously only narrowly beating Dirrell.

And then Ward went on to beat the great Froch himself in a landslide. The gap between them is still great, but once again, inactivity will kick Ward aside.

The fashion in which Froch lost to Andre Ward tells me no.

Froch also lost to Kessler, someone Ward dismantled with ease.

I rank Froch higher but I'm an incredibly biased Froch fan.

Nope froch is not the number 1 SMW.to be the man you got to beat the man and froch already lost to ward and doesn't seem to be to keen on a rematch.ward's dumbass needs to stop losing in court and return to the ring and remind everybody.
