Kessler knew exactly what went wrong. He said in the interview directly afterward that Calzaghe "spoiled his boxing". He gave him full credit. I believe he then said something to the effect of "Back to the drawing board, will have to try something else..." thinking that he'd be granted a rematch at some point.

Yeah, Kessler is historically mostly a 1-2 jockey. He's still a very intelligent guy (for a pugilist) and it's ridiculous to think he'd try the exact same tactics in a rematch knowing they had failed to work against Calzaghe's style. He even SAID that his textbook boxing had been spoiled; why the hell would he not change it up? :patsch He's shown some different aspects of his game over the years. Not all that often, because he's rarely had to (and against Ward never got a chance to, caught off guard and never recovering due to Ward's unexpectedly rough and relentless pace) - but he can adapt and change his style a bit to be better suited to deal with whoever he's in there with. He's whipped a nice uppercut-and-pivot move out of his pocket on his occasion, and for a technical robot he didn't do half bad in a messy brawl with Froch. :deal

Look minion, I fully am aware of who HEADBANGER is and he is a very good poster, but I am not him. You are making a complete fool of yourself. I'm sure a quick IP check from a zealous mod would refute your ludicrous view, upon which you should do the decent thing and offer me a full and grovelling public apology. :smooch

You're one of HEADBANGER's minions for using the same emoticon patterns and for mirroring his forum language. You're basically soul-less. :good

I'll be calling you out on your status quo vCash quite often from tomorrow on. Good stuff.

Why the knife & fork for the sandwich again???

    Pathetic, Prof. :tired

I know I'm in the minority thinking Kessler had a good shot in a rematch. In fact, the only poster in ESB history to have strongly agreed with me there was Amsterdam (who isn't very warmly remembered here but did know his stuff on some points IMO). :yep

I don't care. :bart My faith in Kessler's abilities up through 2007/8 remains strong. He was the second best SMW in the world, and not that far behind the #1 at the time. That rematch is a real missed opportunity, not just for me as a Kessler fan but for Calzaghe's fans as well. Had he won, it would have been more meaningful than wins over ancient Jones and Hopkins. Had he lost, he'd still get his dues for having the balls to even grant the rematch rather than chasing easy paydays.

...I think China Hand Joe also tipped Kessler in a rematch, but as usual it's hard to tell with him when he's being serious.

I don't honestly see how you could think Kessler takes a rematch. He's a great fighter but cannot change styles. In the second half of the fight Joe had him completely figured out. I don't see how Kessler could change that in a second fight.

:patsch NO Way SMW was deeper in 2005 then now. Now you have 3 sliksters , also solid fighters like Kessler, Froch, Bika....

Using his noggin. Scrutinizing video. Putting on his strategy cap.

    He is a bright lad.

Again, he acknowledged that his usual style didn't cut the mustard against Joe - especially in the latter half. Obviously he would bring something new to the table next time out. It isn't like he's some lumbering mongoloid.

It is evident for a thinking fan he is right. But have fun trolling.

How is that a thinking fan? He's making two guesses that we have absolutely no evidence for. Firstly he's guessing that Kessler will come back with a completely new style to figure Joe out. Secondly he's again guessing that Joe will be bamboozled by this new style and won't be able to adjust.

There is no evidence for this. None.

Educated guess, taken no less on faith than your unshaking belief that he couldn't win a rematch. :hi:

Explain how it is an educated guess? What evidence do you have that Kessler is capable of coming back with a completely new style?:think

He went from being a boxer-puncher to a pressure fighter/slugger against Froch :deal
